Gorakhpur Airport (IATA: GOP), officially known as the Mahayogi Gorakhnath Airport, is located 8 km away from the city of Gorakhpur on the Lucknow-Barauni National Highway; the airport has one terminal and one runway. It functions as a civil air terminal that is under the general surveillance of the Indian Air Force station. The Airports Authority of India administers the airport.
The airport terminal can handle 18 passengers each for arrivals and departures. Facilities offered to passengers, include complimentary baggage services, cafes, and help desks. The airport is well-connected to the city via road and rail links, with the city bus stand located 7.5 km from the airport while the railway station is 8 km away.
Situated along the Rapti River, Gorakhpur is a culturally and historically prominent city of Uttar Pradesh located 270 km east of the state capital, Lucknow. It typically experiences a dry winter (minimum temperature 7℃) and a humid, subtropical climate in summers (maximum temperature 39℃). Gorakhpur is well-connected to other major stations in the state through a railway network and boasts of the world’s longest railway platform of 1,355 metres.
The official languages are Hindi and Bhojpuri, while Urdu is also commonly spoken. From a cultural and historical standpoint, Gorakhpur is famous as the birthplace of writer Firaq Gorakhpuri and the workplace of author Munshi Premchand and the mystic poet Kabirdas. It used to be part of the prosperous Kingdom of Koshal, one of the 16 mahajanapadas in the 6th century BC.
Gorakhpur is known for its authentic Mughlai cuisine, which includes a variety of koftas and kebabs, including kakori kebabs – a non-vegetarian dish indigenous to the city – and galouti kebabs. Street-food delicacies such as chaat, kanji vada, gol gappe, and raj kachori are a must-try when visiting the city.
Agatti Aerodrome (IATA: AGX) is the only airport in Lakshadweep and functions as a gateway to the other islands of Lakshadweep. Operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), this airport lies at the southern end of Agatti Island and has one asphalt runway. The airport can handle a maximum of 150 passengers.

The airport is well-equipped with X-ray baggage checking, wheelchairs, medical facilities, and traveller assistance. It also houses food and beverage outlets. Travellers can commute from the airport to the city via auto rickshaws available outside the airport. In addition, the airport offers ferry services to Bangaram Island.
Situated on a coral atoll called Agatti in the Lakshadweep islands, Agatti Island is one of the most beautiful lagoons in Lakshadweep and is the gateway to the islands. It is well-known for its biodiversity and the indigenous flora and fauna, including the multicoloured coral fish that inhabit its lagoons.
The climate of Agatti Island is similar to that of Kerala, with temperatures ranging from 25℃ to 35℃. The best time to visit the island would be between October and March, as the weather is pleasant, which means the sea will be calm and safe to swim in.
Apart from its thriving tourism industry, Agatti is famous for its fishing industry and abundance of fresh fish. This industry forms the crux of Agatti’s eclectic seafood-based local cuisine, including octopus fry; mas kavaab or spiced tuna curry; fish pakora; and maas podichath, a dried tuna dish.
The most prominently spoken languages on Agatti Island are Malayalam and Mahl. However, since it is a popular tourist destination, quite a few locals can converse in English.
Agatti Island houses Lakshadweep’s only airport, which explains why it is called the gateway to the other islands in the cluster.
