About Dibrugarh Airport

Formerly known as Borjhar Airport, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is one of Northeast India’s most prominent airports. Located at a distance of 26 km from the Guwahati city centre, it is named after Gopinath Bordoloi, a freedom fighter and Assam’s first Chief Minister. The airport has one functional terminal and another that is currently under construction. The new terminal can handle 4,300 domestic and 200 international passengers during peak hours and will be enough for managing 10 million passengers annually. The airport is equipped with all modern amenities for the convenience of passengers. It houses 64 check-in counters, 20 self-check-in kiosks, six baggage carousels, an in-line baggage security screening system, and 10 aerobridges. A striking feature of the airport is that the terminal will be an energy-efficient building. Terminal 1 is for the service of domestic flights, with direct and connecting flights flying to about 10 Indian cities. The domestic terminal is huge enough to handle around 500 passengers at peak hours. Terminal 2 will act as an international terminal and will then be a lifted spot for several international flights every week. Other facilities at the airport include snack bars, beverage counters, and refreshment counters. Wheelchair facilities are available for disabled people. In case of an emergency, the airport has adequate medical aid in store for the patients. Restrooms and lost and found counters are also present, keeping the safety and security of the passengers in mind.

About Dibrugarh

The city of Dibrugarh derived its name from the term "Dibarumukh," which was a renowned encampment of the Ahoms during the Ahom-Chutia War. According to history, the British came to this region and constructed a fort on the bank of the river Dibaru. This was the source of the name Dibrugarh. The city is divided by the tributary of the Brahmaputra and is located in a gradual, sloping region in the northeastern part of India. The area is famous for its fertile, alluvial soil, which makes it one of the leading producers of tea in the world. It is the gateway to the three tea-producing districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Sivasagar. Together, they comprise about 50% of India's Assam tea crop. This characteristic feature of the region gives Dibrugarh its pen name: the "Tea City of India.". Dibrugarh is an industrially developed city centred amid sprawling tea estates in Assam. This place is also home to a wide variety of flora and fauna of all species, that have now become an important reason for the thriving tourism industry in this area.
