Nanded is one of India's oldest cities. Throughout history, it has been reigned over by great dynasties such as the Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Satavahanas, Bahamas, and, eventually, the Mughals. According to the Hindu Epic, Mahabharata, the Pandavas are said to have passed through the Nanded township. During the rule of Emperor Ashoka, Nanded was a member of the Mauryan Dynasty. Guru Gobind Singh established himself in Nanded and gave Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib, until he died in 1708. It is most recognised Gurudwara Hazur Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Sikhs' tenth Guru, died after dedicating his entire life to the service of humanity. The city also features several Sufi shrines, a lovely waterfall known as Sahastrakund, and the Kandhar Castle. The massive statue of Kshetrapala is located in this city.
