About Bellary

Bellary, also known as Ballari, is located in the eastern part of Karnataka and spreads from northeast to southwest. It is at an elevation of approximately 30 ft and covers an area of 85.5 sq km. Raipur, Kurnool, Anantapur, Koppal, Devangere, and Chitradurga enclose the district from the four sides. Hills like Ballari Gudda and Kumbara Gudda surround it and contribute significantly to its fame. Bellary is eminent for its rich history and close reference to Hindu mythology. Several theories derive the origin of its name and go back to the 12th century. One of the lithic inscriptions at Byloor from 1131 AD contained ‘Ballare’. About three Hoysala inscriptions mention Ballare as one of the places King Vishnuvardhana captured in his reign. Besides the name, Bellary presents an equally incredible history. A legendary theory says that a devotee of Lord Shiva, Ballesha Mallayya, refused to eat food until he had worshipped the Shivalinga. Lord Shiva revealed himself in a Balla—a grain measure to fulfil his devotee's wish. And the place where God manifested as Balla came to be known as Bellary. On the other hand, one of the theories states that the ‘Balari’ word represents a goddess because Goddess Durgamma had embodied herself here. Bellary is a terrific blend of history, art, architecture, festivity, and nature. The culture here is an amalgamation of modernity and tradition, and folk dances and music are popular among locals. Although residents celebrate festivities cheerfully, the renowned Hampi Festival, held near Bellary, is one of the most prominent. The region rarely experiences rain and remains semi-arid. Therefore, it is preferable to visit the city between October and March. The pleasant weather, topped with smooth transport connectivity within the district via buses, rental cars, and taxis, ensures a memorable trip.

About Rajahmundry

Rajahmundry, also known as Rajamahendri, is considered one of the oldest cities in the country. It lies on the banks of the River Godavari in the east above the head of Delta, about 520 km from Hyderabad. Acclaimed as the birthplace of Telugu, it has a reputation as a powerhouse of culture in southern Andhra Pradesh. It is about 45 ft above sea level. Rajahmundry enjoys a tropical climate. It is hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 34°C to 48°C. While heavy monsoon showers deluge the city with high humidity, winters are cold, with temperatures as low as 12°C. The city, named after its first ruler Raja Raja Narendra, was formerly named Rajamahendravaram and Rajamahendrapuram. Some evidence traces its existence even before 1022 AD. One of the many stories states that the Chalukya king, Raja Narendra, built it in memory of his father-in-law of the Chola dynasty. However, it is nearly impossible to know which theory is correct, as the stones in temples with inscriptions are the only available proofs. The excavations reveal that Rajahmundry existed before the Chalukya rule. Rajahmundry is the first East Godavari district to become a corporation and serves as a commercial centre. Moreover, it is well-known for its clothing merchandise and tourism. The people's lifestyle is a fascinating fusion of past and present. The city offers convenient transport services via local buses, taxis, and rental cars to travel within the region.
