The meal is great, hot spring tub in room if you pay for it. Just expect lots of stream noise from the river outside. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Thanks to the brilliant staff and serene location. Well worth the money. Extra respect for the lady working the front desk on 13:00 25/11/2023 and the older gentleman who helped us through dinner. Will visit again 10 out of 5.

Interesting experience! A really special stay in such an authentic hotel. I highly recommend getting a room with a bath if possible. It's very cosy and pleasant to bathe near the roaring river. The room was quite cold (we stayed at the beginning of November) in the evening, although not for sleeping - the bedsheets were warm. You'll find them in the hall closet next to the room, by the way, and you'll have to prepare bed by yourself. The traditional dinner is also interesting, but the staff had a hard time speaking English and didn't really explain how to cook and what to eat first, so it was a bit stressful. You should definitely try this accommodation once and then decide if you need more comfort.:)

Wonderful hotel! I’m visiting twice! Good for spend whole to relax and enjoy the private hot spring. And they provide beautiful meals to heal your soul 😌 Still the room and simple drink a cup of green tea🍵 Nice and peace💕

Brilliant old fashioned Japanese hotel. It has a history going back over 400 years. Check out the 4th floor, built on top of the existing hotel in 1922. It survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and became famous as a work only best carpenters could create. That fourth floor is the dining hall. A magnificent room. And the dishes they serve are out of this world. High level Japanese cuisine. The staff are wonderful and English is no problem. The interiors are of old Japan. I recommend Tonosawa Ichinoyu Honkan unreservedly. A prize of Hakone! A gem of a place!

The matsu room has a great view of the river and has a private onsen with a mini pond beside it. In the mini pond there are 4 mini crabs that come out in the night to keep you company while you relax in the onsen watching the river. Please look after the crabs 🦀
