Our group faced a very rude staff upon arrival. It is 6pm and we are still roomless despite having a booking. There was only 1-2 small and slow lifts for the entire hotel wing. Room atmosphere feels weird. Some counter staff and buffet chefs were quite friendly.

The floor smells musky. It’s a dated hotel with poor service. Rooms were not ready upon arrival. They said rooms will be ready in an hour but two hours later, still not ready.

First, this hotel has two locations, one block apart. I stayed in the East location, so I can comment only on this site. The complementary breakfast served in the large central atrium was very good - lots of variety for both western and Chinese tastes. It has a small fitness center room open 24/7. The staff were attentive and very helpful. We arrived at 6 am after a long flight, and they let us check into our room right away. The location is outstanding - a couple blocks walk to the subway along the river with lots of fish to watch on the way. Shamian Island is absolutely beautiful. Across the bridge walking north is the old part of Guangzhou, with lots of windy tree-shaded streets and interesting shopping - HUGE open air seafood market to the east, and to the west are the Chinese medicine, vegetable, and electronics markets. The East location of this hotel needs at least a through cleaning, and soon a full renovation. Guangzhou is very tropical - warm, humid and often rainy, which means mold and mildew. This is the Victory's biggest problem: the mold. Still, I did really enjoy staying here!
