About Amritsar

Home to the famous Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar is one of the most popular destinations in North India. It is considered one of the major business and cultural sites. The fourth Sikh guru, Sri Guru Ramdas, founded Amritsar. He also started the construction of a pool right at its centre. Next to this pool was his home, where he stayed for the rest of his life. His son built the first Harmandir Sahib (house of worship). In 1822, Maharaja Ranjit Singh began constructing a great protective wall around the city. It was completed by Sher Singh, who constructed twelve gates. Some of the most popular gates of the city are Lahori Darwaza, Ramgarhia, Doburji, and Rambagh Deori Shahzada. Amritsar was a major seat of revolution against the British, and Jallianwala Bagh is the biggest example of the same. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, where hundreds of people were shot by the British, will always have its imprint on India's history. Amritsar experiences a hot summer and a chilling winter. So, if you are planning a return flight from Trivandrum to Amritsar, carry all types of clothes necessary per the climate.
