The bridge handles over 37,000 vehicles every day. The Gateway of India is one of the most historical landmarks situated in the city of dreams, Mumbai, India. The groundbreaking ceremony of the Gateway of India was on March 31, 1913, and was carried out by the then governor of Bombay. In 1914 the design submitted by George Wittet was finally sanctioned and work commenced. The structure was completed 10 years later in 1924. This arch monument was used as a ceremonial entrance to India for the new governors and viceroys. Also, for those travelling to India by sea, this place marked the entry point to the country. Located in Bandra, also known as the queen of suburbs, the Mount Mary Church is arguably the most beautiful church in Mumbai. If the view of the church seems imposing, wait till you get to the top. From the observation deck of the church, one can get an unobstructed view of the mighty Arabian Sea, with the gorgeous Mumbai skyline in the backdrop. The church is called the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount and is a Roman Catholic church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The church has a long history, and is well over 100 years old. Much like most places of worship in Mumbai, the church is open to people of all faiths. The church was first constructed in the 16th century, though as mentioned earlier, the current church structure is just over 100 years old. The original Virgin Mary statue that is housed here was shipped from Portugal. In 2016, Pope Francis christened the doors of the Mount Mary Church as the Holy Doors of Mercy. The architecture of this church is highly inspired by the gothic culture. This is evident in its towering doors with windows on both the sides. Apart from being a stunning architectural masterpiece, this place is a must-visit for anyone who is looking to explore the many hidden gems of Mumbai, or just find some peace and quiet in silent prayer.
