About Jorhat Airport

The third major airport in Assam after Guwahati and Dibrugarh, the Rowriah Airport in Jorhat (IATA code: JRH), is located 7 km from the city centre. Built in the early 1950s, it was developed to launch flights to carry out airdrops in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The airport has direct flights to Guwahati and Kolkata and is also connected to other major Indian cities. The only airline that flies to Jorhat is IndiGo.

Jorhat Airport has a single terminal supporting domestic flight operations. It has four check-in counters capable of handling 100 passengers at a time. The airport has baggage trolleys and baggage wrapping stations available for the convenience of the passengers. Wheelchairs with escorts are also available for physically challenged and senior citizens. There are snack and juice bars, and a few retail shops selling handlooms from northeastern states.

The airport is well-connected to the rest of the city by road. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the bus station. Taxis and private cars are easily available for commuting to and from the airport. The Jorhat railway station is located just 9 km away from the airport.

Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary

Situated 20 km from Jorhat, the Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is home to primates of various species not commonly seen in other wildlife sanctuaries. Spread across 1,915 hectares, there are capped langurs, slow loris, rhesus monkeys, and hoolock gibbons here. Besides primates, you can also find leopards, elephants, and wild pigs in the sanctuary.

Kakochang Waterfalls

Majuli Island

Majuli Island, the largest riverine island in the world, is located about 20 km from Jorhat on the Brahmaputra river. The island is spread across 1250 sq km and has a rich religious and cultural history. It is home to the first neo-Vaishnavite monastery in Assam, established by Sankardeva. The inhabitants of Majuli Island practice fishing and agriculture, and indulge in pottery, handloom, and weaving. The island is a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sukapha Samannay Kshetra

The Shyamji Krishna Verma Airport in Bhuj (IATA code: BHJ) is located at a distance of 3 km towards the northern part of the city. Spread over 832 acres, the airport is located just 48 km away from the India-Pakistan border. During the 1971 Indo-Pak war, this airport was raided over 35 times within 15 days with 92 bombs and 22 rockets. Later, it was rebuilt by 300 women from the Madhapar village. It was again damaged in the 2001 earthquake, after which it was renovated and dedicated to Lal Krishna Advani, the Deputy Prime Minister of India at that time.

Bhuj Airport serves a single flight to Mumbai operated by Alliance Air. The airport has a single terminal capable of handling 200 passengers at a time. It has four check-in counters along with one security check counter. The airport also offers passengers all basic amenities, including free trolleys, lost and found counters, wheelchairs, assistance for the physically challenged and senior citizens, etc.

Regular taxi services are available for passengers to reach any part of the city. The bus stand is located 4 km from the airport.
