Hotel Aida

Very very nice hotel to stay, just about 2.4km from the Railway Station, they will charge you around 80 to 100 Rs by auto rickshaw. What I liked about this hotel is they provide every basic needs required in a hotel room except for tooth brush and paste which normally other hotels provide. Last night I happened to have dinner with my wife in their restaurant known as Theos restaurant, I happened to order chicken Tikka masala along with butter Naan and kallappam, but I regret to say the chicken Tikka masala was hopeless when compared to other hotels, but Caesar salad was fantastic and it's worth the money. Also the free breakfast that comes along with the room was very very nice, there was choice of idly, sambar, chutney, bhatura with channa masala, pan cakes with maple syrup, wonderful tasty chicken sausage with pepper, grape juice and pineapple juice, cut fruits, boiled eggs and masala omellete as well as tea/coffee, no complaints whatsoever regarding breakfast, very good choices. The only one thing I regret about this hotel was the checking time was 12 noon, and I happened to come from calicut to Kottayam for just one night stay, the train which was supposed to reach Kottayam at 4:22pm finally reached only at 8pm it was three hours late. Eventhough I checked in only at 8:30pm yesterday, I requested them them for a late checkout at 4pm instead of their regular 11am checkout time as my train from Kottayam to calicut was somewhere around 5 to 5:30pm, but they did not agree, they said they will charge me 1000 Rs plus taxes for my late checkout, Just imagine I am not even spending 24hours in the hotel and for them to charge me 1000+taxes is just unreasonable and money craziness, hotel management should be flexible and understanding to the customer, the guest satisfaction is very important if the hotel needs more customers in the future, I am also from the hotel industry with a hotel policy that says " LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT " yes these small small things mean a lot to the customer, only then he will visit this hotel once again.

The food is below average. Nothing special about any dish. I had fish fingers, chicken biriyani, Kerala porota, butter chicken etc. Even though they are very commonly ordered dishes, they all tasted below average. Service is poor. We went on an afternoon after about 2 30 pm during lunch time. One of the waiters switched off the TV so that we would leave. We had no plans to stay there watching TV. It was quite rude and unpleasant. There was another waiter shouting at the top of his voice on the land phone near the reception to the hearing of all customers. It really killed the dining ambience. The poor behaviour and conduct of the waiters require special mention. This is a restaurant which is now cashing in on its past laurels and is still doing well only because there isn't much competition in the fine dining restaurant business in Kottayam. The price for the food and service cannot at all be justified. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
