Royal Orchid Metropole

We had the maharaja room and it was awesome. Luxury bedding; great views; central to the city. The staff are friendly and the rooms are excellent value for the money. It is extremely close the best restaurant in the city - Green Heritage.

I stayed three nights in this property. We were three adults in one room. The room size was adequate and beautiful. It had its own balcony with a coffee table and two chairs. The ambiance was very peaceful and tranquil despite being located bang right in the center of the city and on the main road. The location is perfect because it's just 1km from the railway station you easily get autos right outside the hotel. Many local sightseeing spots are situated close by. This is a heritage property. I was overall satisfied with the upkeep and maintenance but the bathroom needs more attention; specifically the flush in the WC. Floor mats weren't placed neither on the entrance to the bathroom nor the place where we step out of the bath tub. This could be very dangerous. The bedding is quite soft. While this wasn't a problem for me, people with back pain might find it very uncomfortable. But on the plus side, the bed linen was very clean. The TV is placed right across the beds so it's very comfortable for watching our favourite shows. My parents primarily wanted to watch Tamil channels and English news. We had access to all of the desired channels. The AC in the room worked perfectly but the weather was not too hot so we just used the fan which by itself kept the room pretty cool. There was also mosquito repellent in the room which we appreciated a lot. There's a swimming pool and a 24 hours gym. Our bookings included breakfast buffet. So we had them thrice. This was just okay with very little change in the menu. And when it comes to their choice of Indian sweet in the spread, if they serve rava upma then it would be nice if they don't serve rava kesari. Too much rava in the same spread. But the restaurant staff were very polite and readily available to cater to our needs. The plates and all cutleries were very clean. We also had À la carte dinner twice in the tiger trail restaurant in their outdoor seating area. The entire place was light with candles and lanterns. The tables were placed at a decent distance among them. The menu has enough variety that you don't get bored eating in the same place on two consecutive nights. We loved the whole dining experience. My mother and I had our birthdays on those two nights and it simply made our day. Coming to sightseeing, I strongly suggest that you make your bookings directly through a local agency and not through this hotel. I enquired about a day trip to Somnathpur and Talakkadu temples. They spoke to a driver and quoted INR 4800. I then booked directly with spn travel agency. In addition to the temples, they took us to two waterfalls and the amount was INR 2800. Finally, I want to share my billing experience. I booked the room via MakeMyTrip. So, I paid INR 1075 while booking itself. However, in the final bill this wasn't taken into consideration and had I not thoroughly gone over the bill before I paid, I would have paid that 1075 again. Although they immediately rectified this mistake and produced another bill, this kind of negligence is simply unacceptable. So if you are staying in this property please go over the bill very very carefully. 3.5 / 5
