One word to describe the hotel is beautiful.Very nice place to stay. The cloudy climate added to the nice experience. The rooms were clean and neat . Place is surrounded by peacocks, they mind their own business. The pool , restaurant and indoor play were good. We enjoyed our stay there. Nature is very pleasant with full of birds and fresh air.Very good place to stay for a short period.

The Gateway Hotel is in a good location outside Madurai with a wonderful view. The bedroom we stayed in was large with a nice bathroom, however it was not very clean and as it had still not been cleaned by 1pm we called reception to arrange. We were asked if we wanted it to be cleaned! The room and the whole Hotel just seemed rather tired and unloved and this feeling was carried over to the service in the restaurant. The food however was quite good with both buffet and a la carte dining. We would not stay there again.

We stayed the week of Dec 20 for 3 nights. Upon entering the property gate, the scenery changes (for the better) and you start driving up a private hill to the hotel. The property grounds are beautifully maintained. 5-stars for the property alone. There was loud religious music playing most of the time outdoors when we were there (mid Dec) but it didn't bother us a bit in terms of sleep due to the nice noise isolation of the doors and windows. The staff are very courteous, and well meaning; but they are inexperienced. We had booked a room for 4, and I had emailed the hotel prior to our arrival that we will require a room that can sleep 4. Upon arrival we realized the room was insufficient for all of us. We requested an extra bed for our son immediately on arrival. Unfortunately, it took multiple phone reminders and an in-person visit to the front desk to finally have the bed delivered to the room. The restaurant serves healthy, authentic South Indian food (and cold cereal options) that we all enjoyed. The service is noticeably slow when ordering from the menu, but the buffet options were kept warm, fresh, and enjoyable. Since we were traveling with kids from California, we were thankful for the bottled Bisleri bottles everywhere. Overall a nice stay, but we wouldn't stay here again for the same price ($360/night).

Great location - very poor upkeep. Rooms, abysmal - linen, poor - TV - not working - mosquito menace , alive and buzzing inside the room - service, sincere - food was half hearted and not in keeping with present standards for premium hotels. Needs a major overhaul from the staff to the outlook as to what they wish to provide to a more discerning clientele. Not enough if they just milk the white tourist - Indian guests expect quality in keeping with the tariff charged.

It was a good property. I stayed here for a day, it was a business trip. I have never seen peacocks so mingling with people- I wondered the way hotel crew maintained it. Spotting peacocks around was a really nice feeling, they not getting scared of us and staying with us was an all the more nice experience. 2. Food was amazing- few mentions - in live grill chicken was awesome, prawns love was amazing.
