9 Hornbills Tented Camp

Please note that this review is based on our experience and what we think of the resort. It doesn’t mean that this is a bad resort but it just didn’t fit our standards or expectations. Let me start with the positive. - 9 Hornbills is the most picturesque hotel experience we have ever had. The view from our tent was simply breathtaking. - The staff’s attitude was always good. Everyone we talked to was smiling and mostly attentive. The resort was also very accommodating to some of our request. Now the negatives, mainly because we felt that with the prices they were charging, the resort’s service was sub par. - The 9hornbills tent was advertised as air conditioned but the a/c was NOT ADEQUATE to keep the room comfortable. The 2 fans they also offered were large and could blow cold air but the noise they created just took away from the quietness of the place. During the day, it was simply too hot to be in the tent and relax so we either had to keep jumping into the pool to cool down or go to cafes around the island with proper air conditioning. At night, without the fan blowing on us constantly, it was also too hot and we didn’t get a good night sleep. the staff did explain to us that the air conditioning will make the room 5-7 degrees cooler than the outdoor, when the temperature is 35 degrees outside, it meant the room was somewhere near 30degrees which is too hot for us to be comfortable. - Once we told the resort, they did kindly offer to move us down to the villa by the beach with better air conditioning which didn’t have a great view like the tent upstairs. This villa to us, was not worth the price they were charging as the villa felt old, the rooms inside and the outdoor bathroom were dirty. The rugs and floors were dirty and the hotel didn’t offer us any slippers. The tables and any space to do any other activities other than sleep was located outdoor so it was still very hot. The only indoor area was the bedroom with no tables or chairs, just the bed. - other small details we thought was disappointing included the small breakfast spread (only meat option was one type of sausages and various eggs) and the quality of the Thai dinner set. Once again, this is our opinion of the place and not meant as a disrespect to the resort. The view was amazing and the staff was lovely and very accommodating. I’m sure that this resort is perfect for others with more adventures streaks but it just wasn’t for us. We did up checking out a day early (even though the room was non-refundable). when we left, none of the staff approached us to ask the reasons that we were leaving early.

The setting here is so serene and beautiful, at one with nature. The views over the karsts and bay are breath-taking and you never get tired of waking up to the panorama even when the weather is not the best. The tent accommodation is so cosy and comfortable, offering everything you need. The staff are all so lovely and attentive, and the food was utterly delicious. Absolutely perfect stay, 9 Hornbills comes 100% recommended without hesitation!
