This ryokan has beautiful rooms and the service was very friendly. If you want to have a private onsen where you also can take a few pictures, this is a good option. You can choose between three onsen and can book it two times per day. The rooms were beautiful and the service fullfilled our special requests with much love to detail. You have to walk a bit longer to get there but a bus station is around the corner. Would definetely recommend!

Second Ryokan on my travel through Japan and unfortunately it was not as great as expected. The room was in a bad shape. The wall were quite damaged and badly fixed. The room was just cleaned properly on the surface. There are western beds but they are far away from Western standard. The breakfast was medium at best. The onsen was dirty from day two on. Which made it hard to enjoy. Fallen leaves in an onsen on the outside are fine but not collections of hairs. And as already mentioned in the other reviews the service was a nightmare. You have a menu with drinks, which are not available and on our last day we wanted a baggage lift down to the station as advertised, which also wasn't possible for our whole luggage (we travelled in a group of 5 people) since they explained to us that they don't have a car on that day or what so ever... Taking the price tag into account this was the worst stay I had in a pretty long time.

I think this ryokan is ok. It was clean, both rooms and the onsen, but there is room for improvement. We thought it was odd that the rooms didn’t have showers, so if you want to take one you must book the onsen. The WiFi was terrible, we had to use all of our data roaming. Breakfast was good, pretty traditional but I’m picky so not an standard. Rooms were very cold, and the heater took forever to heat up. I really liked the blackout curtains, and the beds were surprisingly comfy. It was overall a OK experience, but I expected more due to the price. Edit- also, they don’t have room service (cleaning, making beds change towels etc)

We were in Japan for 10 days and this was by far my favorite part of our trip. We didn’t know if we would be able to find an onsen that would be safe/welcoming to us since we are both heavily tattooed and we’re a visibly LGBTQ couple. Ajisai checked those boxes for us. The room was cozy (we booked through Airbnb and only saw the listing for a Japanese style room, but the sleeping mats were very comfortable!) and the onsen baths were clean and hot. They even let us book an extra time slot in the bath because the ryokan wasn’t at full capacity. We tried 2 different baths, indoor & indoor/outdoor and enjoyed both. As others have mentioned, it is uphill from the station but we had no issue getting a taxi to the inn and back and forth for dinner (restaurants do close early, and some are cash only so be mindful. There is no ATM in town). Staff helpfully called the cab for us b/c of the language barrier. The taxis were booked up when we checked out, but the walk downhill was not bad. We recommend stopping at nearby Hakone No Mori No Pancake for breakfast.

We had a wonderful, relaxing and exclusive experience at Ajisai Onsen Ryokan. The staff was so kind and helpful during our 3-night stay. The breakfast was delicious, so carefully prepared. We also had dinner one night which was one of the best meals we had during our trip. The landscape in Hakone is marvelous in late November. After touring during the day, we enjoyed the indoor and outdoor onsen. If you understand the concept of a ryokan, Japanese culture, and want an exclusive experience in the mountains, Ajisai is for you.
