Ally's Guest House Barcelona B&B

I had a very hard time to come up with a fair review on this place. I feel my experience have been balanced out on highs and lows but unfortunately the weight was more on the negative side. We had a very large room (it was probably a living room before) so we had more than enough space to stretch out. The room looked to be in a rather questionable condition, the floorboards had holes in them on multiple spots (which we covered while we were there to not trip up in them), the windows were hard to close and I could only close the door with a key, because it would just keep flinging open. Also the room was very noisy all the time, either because of the street, the thin walls or the weird noises that came from the bathroom (you can pick and choose). On the positive side, the rooms were kept pretty clean and the bed was super comfortable. The biggest disappointment I had was the breakfast service which was more than underwhelming. We got the information that the breakfast is from 8:30, so we were out in time, but by the time we got there (the diner was literally 5 metres from our door) there was no free seating so we had to wait for our turn. When we finally got to eat, we had a half boiled egg, a few slices of ham and some bread to choose from. We had coffee, but no milk and there was a coffee capsule dispenser which you could use by inserting €1 (what?). The girl who served the food did not check on us after we arrived, she sat down in front of the computer in the lobby (?). Needless to say, we had to find some proper breakfast in the city later. From a place which has the name "breakfast" in it's name, this is more than disappointing. The only aspect I could praise is the location. It is very close to the Sagrada Familia (basically 10 minutes walk) and to multiple metro stations so going around was easy. From the previous points, I can understand how they can operate there on such a low price. Overall I would give the place 2.2/5 which is not what I would expect from a place in the middle of Barcelona. I can't really recommend it at it's current state, but I do hope they will improve in the future.

Great location and friendly staff. Our room wasn't huge but it was comfortable, with a nice balcony and plenty of communal space where we had access to a fridge, kettle and utensils. It is an old building and hasn't been massively renovated, so I appreciate what other reviewers have said about that, but the cleanliness was good enough for us as budget travellers. The B&B offers to look after your bags before/after checkout, too — great if you have time to explore the city before or after your flight. From here, we walked to the Aerobus, Sagrada Familia, Museum of Design, Museum of Contemporary Art, the harbour and Montjuic Park no problem. There are loads of restaurants within easy reach, too.
