Just checked out from Aman Summer Palace few days ago and we had a pleasant experience there. We arrived early at the hotel, around 7am. Check in time is 3pm. My husband had fever and we needed a place to rest. The weather was cold and we sat at the lobby lounge to kill time. At that point, I overheard one of the staff, Ms Fiona asked her colleague if it is possible to get the room ready because the guest is tired. I was touched. At around 11+am, Ms Fiona approached us and informed us that the room is ready. We are very pleased with her attentiveness. My husband had a good rest and recovered well from the flu. It was a comfortable stay at this hotel. We were there for 3 days and for all these days we were attended with utmost warmth. I was impressed to see the prompt room service despite the peak season. Every need was catered with utmost perfection making us feel so important. Oh and if you ever visit this hotel during Autumn, please try the pear drink 小吊梨汤 served by the hotel. It is amazing and I could not find the same taste elsewhere in Beijing. The staff, Ms Fiona informed us that the pear drink is freshly prepared daily for the guests during Autumn season. I will go back to this hotel again just for this drink! Once again, thank you Ms Fiona and the wonderful team for the impressive service. We will definitely visit Aman Summer Palace again with our kid next time.

We moved here for the final night of our birthday celebration trip from Wordolf, the experience here is far below expectations. The price is Aman price, but the service is like a 3/4 star hotel. Staff are stiff and untrained, service is not living up to a normal 5 star, not to mention a luxury 5 star. We didn’t get a proper greeting, the bell boy was lost and didn’t know how to deal with our luggage, to the extent that the taxi driver had to shout at him by saying “mate, it’s your job to take the guest’s luggage.” Anyways, very average experience and not worth the money! The Chinese experience is also not refined. Lacking of practical things in the room, no hooks to hang the towels. Our safe isn’t working either…it’s so far anywhere as well.

Excellent service and staff. Beautiful concept. The Western restaurant was excellent and the Chinese restaurant was "just OK" -- didn't try the others. Massage services were standard. The rooms themselves seem to have limits re: how cool the AC is--and for some tastes, they can get pretty hot. Also, many rooms have a shared "courtyard" w/ another room--and in our case, our neighbors decided to spend much of the night smoking cigars which filled our non-smoking rooms w/ disgusting smoke. The access to the Summer Palace is really cool--but probably a lot more so if you're into the Summer Palace and all of the history-- Regardless, it can be EXTREMELY, mind-numbingly crowded there in the summer. Outside tours booked by this hotel to places like the Great Walls aren't that great (guides are personable aren't very knowledgeable, poorly planned out etc)--at least in our case. Note that it will take considerable time most days to get from this hotel to any other major attractions in and around Beijing.

Note that the hotel location on GoogleMaps is WRONG. It is right next to Summer Palace. However the property by itself is very nicely done up and being next to Summer Palace gives you direct access to the Summer Palace park (not the buildings) for about 12 hrs a day. Beautifully restored, we were told that these used to house guests of Cixi. Service was a little subpar from the usual personalised Aman experience, but still good and responsive. Highly recommended if you have the chance to stay here, for the historical value of the place.

我愛上了這家酒店! Aman Summer Palace was our chosen accommodation on my 5th visit to this historic and remarkable city. Beijing is home to 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites. This Aman property is located within the East Gate of the magnificent Summer Palace (itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site)- just 15 kilometers from the city centre. . The accommodations are housed in ancient dwellings which date back over a century ago. The original complex was used by guests of the Summer Palace awaiting an audience with the Empress Dowager Cixi. . Suites reflect traditional Chinese architecture and celebrate the courtyard style of the palace. The Ming Dynasty inspired furnishings are aptly appropriate and they give one that engrossed feeling of stepping back in time. Simply decorated yet exudes refined sophistication. . All guests have access to the secret door that leads to the palace complex without paying the entrance fee and waiting in long line ups. . After we got back from exploring the city’s, a birthday calligraphy was waiting for me in the room. I decided to listen to some music and the first track of the CD was the birthday song. Wow! I was not sure if it was just a coincidence or it was an intentional surprise but how thoughtful of them. But having stayed in two other Aman properties in this trip, that had been a constant occurrence and really a part of the culture of exceptional service from each and every staff member that we have had the pleasure of meeting. They really think of the minutest detail to make their guests’ entire experience noteworthy. . I was happy that we chose to stay here during the last leg of this memorable birthday trip. I felt so blessed with the bespoke experience that we have gained staying in this important and historic property. . When I find myself back in this spellbinding city, I would gladly bypass other amazing hotels in the effervescent city centre over this serene and magnificent property.
