pros: great location, ensuit bathroom, clean enough, big lockers in room cons: NO AC, check in process felt sketchy, not a real hostel just rooms for rent in a building, had to call to check in in a run down bar and timing was up to the owner, 6 flights of stairs no elevator, no social element at all, moldy shower curtain, green slime in toilet, shower didn’t drain and was hand hold, heard someone walking around at 3 am on the floor riffling around when everyone was in bed, a man came to the all girls floor and peed all over the balcony not sure who or how they got there. locked room and came back to it unlocked. terribly hot at night even with a fan. overall it is a place to rest your body, but if you can pay a bit more money to stay somewhere else do it.

This was quite a surprise given the 9 plus star reviews on hostelworld. The room itself was clean and had essentials but the location was slightly inaccurate and only accessible with the owner, which we did not know. Right before we got there I happened to look at my email and he had emailed me asking for all my details, I assume so we could meet up. He happened to arrive when we did and let us in. Then he told us that we couldn’t take cards and we would have to give him cash for the Room. We got in late and and had to leave early from the airport, so this was very inconvenient not knowing prior. The whole structure had a foul smell of gas and the room had another unidentifiable odor. The walls were paper thin. It overall was a nerve wracking experience, given that it did not feel safe or legitimate. Some of the reviews mention a kitchen, there is no kitchen. It is also polished as a bead and breakfast on some websites but it is not. The host did seem kind but all in all we would not go back.

I stayed three nights at Bar dell'Artista Hostel in Rome. This is wonderful hostel with a great location and a great price point. The owner Franco was very very nice, friendly and helpful with anything I needed. I paid for a mixed dorm room but because Franco had space he gave me my own private room at no extra cost. The room was super clean, with adequate lighting and charging outlets by the bed. There was a locker with a key where I was able to store all my belongings. The room had a fridge and and microwave. The bathroom was also very nice and modern. Franco gave me as towel to borrow free of charge. Access to a full kitchen setup if you want to cook your own food. Cannot stress the location enough it is situated in the perfect spot. 10 minute walk to the train station (which gets you to the airport in 30 minutes, and gets you to Vatican city in 15 minutes). 5 minute walk to the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. The hostel is situated on a main street that I felt was very safe and had tons of cute little restaurants. Up on the 5th floor where I stayed there was very little noise from neighbours or the city below. I will be coming back to Rome and when I do there's no place I'd rather stay. Definitely recommend 100%. Thanks so much Franco!! :)
