The Kruger National Park is more of a mixed bag of experiences now than it has ever been. As regular visitors to the park over the last 15 years or so, we can make a few qualified assessments regarding the park and its facilities. In general the park is in desperate need of maintenance, whether roads or camps/facilities. Toilet and bathing areas at various campsites and camps are very average. Picnic sites are extremely welcome but often don’t have water available which is frustrating regarding toilets and cleaning of dishes. Staff are good and give you their best to make your stay memorable. Litter has become a major problem with many park visitors throwing their rubbish out their car windows, with no regard for the environment. Often locals climb out their vehicles to ablute in the reserve with no regard to the dangers of what they are doing or toward other visitors that have to take this site in! There is no adherance to rules by local visitors and no enforcement from park officials. Officials from the park side seem to be oblivious to what this game reserve needs to restore it to a place where it is an icon and not an embarrassment for visitors especially international clients. This lack of pride toward the game reserve is apparent at all the major camps. There are shops which are well stocked with basics and staff are attentive but this is let down severely by poor standards of upkeep toward the camps. There are to many speeding vehicles in the park and especially by official vehicles as well as vehicles supplying merchandise and supplies in the park. This desperately needs to be addressed by senior Kruger National Park officials who seem oblivious to these problems, or who could be more concerned with their earnings than their involvement.

Amazing place with a wide variety of wildlife. We were lucky to come across the big five and lots of many other animals! Do bring binoculars as sometimes the animals can be far away. For amateur photographers like me, the photos I took were using 50mm-400mm lens. Generally good enough to capture most animals. Can be a little challenging if you are just using your iPhone as many of the wild cats and birds can be quite far. I did a 5 day tour which allowed me to view only a small part of the park. Also my first experience so I would think it was sufficient. Will definitely return for longer periods! It is recommended if you are looking for a bigger park that’s close to Cape-town!
