Great affordable and beautiful hotel with very good staff. Rooms are sized nicely for even 3 people with total of 5 suitcases. This layout requires the 2 beds plus an extra futon for the setup we had, but you can't lay out more than 2-3 suitcases. Staff speaks English and were very accommodating when it came to luggage shipping (just a warning you need to ship the day before you check out if you want the suitcases to arrive the day you arrive at a new hotel). I would recommend an off day one of your days so that you can run the laundry and maybe read a manga from their library while you wait for the wash to cycle through (2 hour wash+dry cycle). Laundry is super easy to run and additional amenities mean you don't need to buy much from nearby stores. 7/11 right around the corner as well as bus stop were used frequently for basic necessities and transit. Only downside is it is a 15 minute walk if you want either nearby train station.

Hotel with great sized rooms, every amenity you could ask for provided for free, and a wonderful English-speaking staff that makes an effort for every request you make. The only downside of the hotel is that it is in the middle between two subway stops, about a 12-15 minute walk in either direction. Not a terrible thing, just something important to know! But the restaurants nearby? They are absolutely fantastic. Some of the best in all of Kyoto. I was very happy with my week long stay at the Rinn Gion Yasaka.

Not a customer centric place. We send a note saying that we will check in 2hrs early but actually is 1.5hrs and they charge us 2hrs rate. Small thing but why. Anyway, room is great. No doubt. Area is very quiet, can be scary when walking at night. Although Japan is a safe country. Challenging to find restaurants at night. Best to stay 1 night only for experience at this area.

We just spent three nights in this lovely hotel and highly recommend staying here. It's spotless, friendly, comfortable, peaceful, spacious (by Japanese standards) and an excellent value. The location is great. It's tucked on a quiet residential street a short walk from bus stops, restaurants and shops. It's a few minutes' walk from the winding streets and stunning shrines of Gion. The hotel stored our luggage when we arrived before check-in, and delivered it to our room before we returned. We were able to store it again the day we checked out. Rooms have an elegant Japanese style, and come with a Nespresso machine and pods; a plug-in tea kettle and a variety of tea; excellent AC; a mini-fridge; slippers; robes; and down comforters. Our room also had a sitting area with a loveseat and large TV, and a separate low table and cushions. The desk staff was very friendly and able to converse in English.

Pros: Very helpful staff Close to everything Inexpensive Very close to the best sushi ever Very deep tub Nice shower High ceilings Manga available for check out Washer/dryer available for laundry Spacious room Cons: Beds uncomfortable Not dark enough in rooms at night Rooms are damp Washer/dryer does not dry all the way It is not unlimited coffee and water (you get one small tiny itty bitty of each per day) Room was not properly cleaned before or during our stay I hardly slept the whole time I was there because the room was so bright and the bed so uncomfortable. I would not stay again, but if you are on a budget, don't have trouble sleeping, and want to be close to everything, this place could work for you.
