I wish I wasn't writing this review but I see no other choice. My Dad booked rooms at Charter House to visit his dying youngest brother but unfortunately, his brother passed before he could make the trip. With weeks to go until the booking start date, my Dad tried to call to cancel the booking, straight to voicemail. He called dozens of times over the day. I tried the next day and got through first time. The woman was very nice when I explained the situation and agreed to grant a refund, she sent a proof of cancellation to my dad. This email deducted the entire fee as a cancellation charge, which wasn't mentioned on the phone. Over the course of weeks I called multiple times daily and it always went straight to voicemail. I left voicemails and emails but got no reply. Eventually I got through and the woman was again nice, saying she would look into it. That was over a week ago and every call I make goes straight to voicemail again. I am incredibly disappointed at the lack of communication and seeming callousness of this business, to behave this way during a time of mourning and to a struggling pensioner.

My family and I booked 2 rooms for 1 night here. The rooms were quite nice, spacious, interesting decor and large TV's. The bathrooms were clean but I couldn't stand up straight under the shower head. I'm only 6ft but it couldn't be adjusted higher so it was a case of ducking under or smashing my skull into it. In either bathroom there was no hand soap provided. We had to use the body wash from the shower. The beds looked good and suited the room but all were ridiculously creaky. The creaking would have woken me up had the drunks in the square not done that already. A Friday night at this location is not good. Too many people screaming, shouting and arguing outside. In the morning I found the spoons were dirty and a nasty looking stain on a towel. I don't see myself returning to this hotel.

Shabby chic upscaled furniture with a hint of steampunk downstairs, done well I thought. Rooms clean, spacious and comfortable, service friendly, food good. I found no issues on my visit and will return here

Perfect place! We stayed in the family room and it was huge - very comfortable for a family of 4 to stay in. The deco is quirky and really cute. Rooms were clean and towels were changed on request. The only issue we had with the rooms were that they weren’t the most soundproof. You can hear birds in the early morning and people talking around the square outside the church so do take note if you are a light sleeper. In terms of location, only a 2 minute walk to the Newport Bus station which was great because we didn’t have to wake up early to catch the summer bus lines as all of them go through Newport. Would definitely come back and stay the next time we’re on the island.
