City Drops Hostel

We were scammed because, according to the staff, they got the translation wrong. We were a group of 6 people and booked through Booking. Amongst the various options, you could choose between beds in various rooms, or an "apartment"... turns out it wasn't an apartment, rather a room. It was entirely ours, but it definitely wasn't what we asked for. The booking details also specified about 100m2, when the room was, according to the staff, about 60m2; also, bathrooms were shared with other hosts. We told the staff about the misunderstanding, to which they replied saying that it was a translation problem and to contact Booking for complaints (as we have done). Nevertheless, I'm clueless as to how "quarto" can be translated to "apartment", especially when apartment is "apartamento" in portuguese. Apart from that, the hostel was not clean, nor were the bathrooms. A good note is that staff is very friendly: they told us what to see and even gave us a map with the various locations. The hostel is also pretty much in the center of the city; that was very nice. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're desperate, it's better than sleeping under a bridge

Illegal hidden extra charges. Tacky, scruffy, run-down, thin mattress, wobbly bunks, no proper cooker, no free tea or coffee, breakfast extra. Porto has much nicer hostels for less cost.
