City Park Hotel

We stayed at Park Hotel in Almaty for 4 nights. The property is top notch - great location close to Abhay metro station and the Hotel Kazakhstan. Most convenience spots were walking distance from the hotel (that is we walk like crazy, and so it was fine for us). The area is in a mostly quiet neighborhood and is situated amidst a lot of greenery and nature. Dostyk mall and the cable car entrance that takes you to Kok Tobe are nearby. The staff are very helpful and polite. One day I wanted to request for additional toiletries - even though the lady couldn't communicate well enough in English, she made out what I wanted and delivered additional stock in no time. For those who do not know, people don't know English in Almaty - very difficult to communicate. The reception and restaurant staff were very hospitable as well. The furniture and furnishings are so exquisite, that I was taken aback when I was told that the hotel is quite old! The cupboards, beds, tables, etc were so clean and scratch-free that it looked like a new hotel to me. Breakfast at the hotel is average - they have the regular assortment of continental items, of which none were spectacularly tasty. Decent enough though. One intriguing aspect that struck us was the bathrooms in the room. May be because we are not used to such a set up, we found it weird. The bathrooms are like cupboards - made up of 2 small enclosures - one with a shower and another with a closet. Both had wooden walls and flooring and looked just like a cupboard. Upon entering the room the first time, I was not sure which one the cupboard was. Also the washbasin is outside the toilet. It is separated from the room by just a mirror. Honestly this set up was a bit inconvenient, but we managed. Being used to the hotels in Dubai, and other places, I found it a bit odd that the small lobby was mostly deserted. I'd have expected to see visitors sitting and chatting, drinking, etc , but this one was empty most of the time. That of course doesnt change our perception of the hotel. All in all a lovely stay - would highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel with very friendly people. Had a standard room which is okay. Despite a few (maybe personal opinion) downsides - I stayed here in the winter (around 0 °C) but inside the rooms it was very hot without the possibility to manually change the heating in the room, so I had to put the window open during the night to let it cool down but than you hear lots of noise coming from the streets unfortunatally. - The pillows are (my opinion) way to soft Bed is okay, breakfast is extensive and tasteful and also for dinner the restaurant is good! Very good wifi across the hotel.
