East Shinagawa Apartment

We picked this instagrammable Airbnb in Tokyo because it looked cute in pictures. The entrance to this apartment was in the back lane, not the main road, which was a bit tricky to find at night. The good things: - The place is nicely decorated with 2D wall painting - They give you things basic necessities, like toothbrushes, hair dryer etc - It's close to Family Mart, 7-11, a grocery store (Maruetsu Petit), and McDonald's. - Nishi-Oi station is within walking distance, just one stop away from Shinagawa on the Yamanote line. - They reply quickly to emails. The not-so-good things: - It's a bit crowded for three people, especially when you pull out the lower bunk bed, there’s no space to walk. - The shower water was only lukewarm although I have set it to the highest temperature, not warm enough for winter. - Noise travels easily between units because they're only separated by partitions, not concrete. - The unit we stayed in is on the 1st floor, the staircase is narrow, you have to be careful manoeuvring big luggages. - The unit doesn’t have a clothes dryer, so you have to air-dry your clothes. However, to hang your clothes, you need to move the bunkbed away from the wall. This is a not an easy feat moving the bed because it’s heavy. On top of that, once the bunkbed is moved, the lower bunkbed can't be pulled out due to space constraints. There are extra charges for early check-in/late check-out, and they have a long list of house rules you need to follow. Despite that, we had some noise issues during our stay.
