Great hotel in downtown Cairo. The building is a bit old, but the rooms are clean and nice. Our hosts were incredible helpful and nice. And they spoke perfect English, which is always a plus. Don't expect to have amazing views, however, as you will only see old buildings on each side. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at the El-Otel.

Truth is one can have mixed feelings about this hotel. I'd say it's okay and I'd book it again should I visit Cairo again in the future. Upon our arrival, it was quite difficult to locate the hotel as it is in an old building downtown inside a narrow Street. Nevertheless, that was not an issue to us (as to most of the people on these reviews). The place has a hostel part (that's where the worst reviews come from) and a private rooms part. We stayed at the private room with private bathroom. The room was clean, nicely decorated and had air conditioning making it a nice place to stay. The guys working at the hotel were suuuuper helpful!!! Helmy and Muka thanks. You can literally ask for anything and they are eager to help. Location is close to everything within walking distance or a 5min uber drive tops. On the downside, the rooms were extremely noisy because they are separated either by permanently -locked doors or plasterboards from one another. This meant that at some points we had to knock on the neighboring door to let them know we can't sleep and vice versa. Additionally, the balcony frames are also 0% soundproof. You can hear all the noise from the street which lasts until 3am. The breakfast was everyday the same unless you asked for anything different which again was not good enough. Would rather booked it without breakfast. All in all, our stay was very pleasant and I'd recommend this place for travelers. This review refers to a private room with private bathroom. Not the hostel part!

I have been a few times at El Hotel and I can only say that it became my Go-to place when I get in Cairo. I found there very welcoming, friendly and supportive staffs who made me feel safe, relax and home every time. With them, every questions were answered, every problems found a solution. I love the location and while yes, the building is old, you wouldn't want it the other way! I did 2 great tours in Alexandria with Hussam and in Gizah pyramid. I can't wait to book my stay there next year!

I didn't like the place. It was dirty, and there was no en-suite bathroom. It was difficult to navigate, as there were no clear signs or boards in front of the building indicating the hotel's presence. There was only one small sticker to the side of the wall. The elevator was old, rickety, and felt very unsafe. Additionally, the entrance area was dusty and unclean. The property description didn't mention anything about the bathroom so we didn't know about the shared bathroom until we reached the location. We immediately checkout out, 2 minutes after checking-in.
