Sorry to have to post a negative review, but unfortunately that’s what it has to be. This property is thoroughly overpriced. We paid A$180/night. We didn’t even get a bed. They supplied a 5 cm thick mat(no mattress) for each of us and my partner and I ended up with excruciating back pains! The pictures supplied at the Agoda app only showed rooms with beds and mattresses! There were no chairs in the bedroom and as we are in our sixties, it was incredibly uncomfortable. No on suite, wash basins were in the hallway, no privacy whatsoever. Only shower was in the public onsen! Toilets were shared! Unbelievable for such a price tag! Location was remote and accessibility was difficult and up a steep hill. There was a policy pointed out in the information booklet supplied, that you can’t bring any food or drink into your room and that you you have to remove all your rubbish from the property yourself! Absolutely incredible! Pricing for food in the property was very high compared to other places we stayed at in Japan. The closest restaurant was about 800 meters distant down the steep hill! The staff were reasonably friendly, but we had the impression of the owner being a smiling assassin and they don’t hardly speak anything but Japanese! Very poor effort for an internationally acclaimed tourist destination! This is not a negative comment but just a warning for future references - the onsen was at times below the requested temperature and my partner wore some of her silver jewellery in the onsen and it turned black. A warning sign would be appropriate. Hope this will assist future potential clients in their choices, we will definitely never stay there ever again.

Traditional Japanese hot spring house. Staff are friendly, accommodating and helpful, and can speak some English. There are several levels of stairs at the entrance to this hill-based building. More stairs inside the house. If you are traveling with many luggages then it’s not recommended. The front desk staff would help with carrying luggages though. Classic hot spring experience. In-house dinner and breakfast very high quality. There are not too many restaurants nearby so it’s the best to reserve meals with them.

You get what you pay for here. It's cheap and the big onsen is nice, great for a nice soak, but the hotel is very old and shows its age (in not the nice kind of way). Rooms were fine but there was no food service offered (the chef was off duty I guess?) and overall the atmosphere was a bit run down. Even though there were lots of other guests, it felt like a bit of a ghost town. The host was somewhat courteous, but also gave us the feeling like we weren't wanted there and we didn't feel very welcome. Anyways, it's good value for what you pay but don't expect a lot.
