Hostel Split

Where do we begin. When we arrived the man at check in was unprofessional he explicitly told us there was no small crime in Croatia so they don’t lock the door. We went to our rooms which were sort of clean, but there was a massive cricket in the room. The window by one of the beds was open and didn’t shut - this was a problem in the evening as it was so loud and early morning was the same. The showers were small and the hot water wasn’t the best - it seemed to have a mind of its own. The real issue was that us and another guest had our clothes stolen. Our clothes were left to dry in the room but when we returned they’d gone. The man at the desk said it was the cleaners and that he was sorting it - this was not the case. Every time we checked he said the same things, when we asked why our stuff had been taken he ignored us. He seemed much more keen to party than help his guests. It was funny because this is the same man who said there wasn’t any crime - yet theft even if it’s clothes is a crime. They were unbelievably shocking at dealing with this. We were leaving the next day and they honestly had no clue and didn’t seem to care. In the morning, the lady on reception was once again far from helpful. She apologised but shrugged and tried to blame other people staying - yet the cleaners had returned the other guests shorts. It was an unreal situation, as no one helped us - how weird is it that someone would steal used swimwear! Likewise, the hostel didn’t seem particularly safe every night there was a party - which is fine! But people from outside the hostel joined in, on multiple occasions people who weren’t staying came into our room. On the last night a guy who was fairly drunk came to outside our room and was pestering the girls asking them to come out. One girl asked him to leave and he reluctantly continued to pester her. The guy explained he’d been invited in by staff. We are avid travellers and have stayed in hostels all over the world but this was the one that felt unsafe, unpredictable and unworthy of the money we paid. We are far from happy with our stay and the way staff handled situations. Not worth the stay - especially if you want your swim suit to dry
