Hotel 48LEX New York

I enjoyed my stay and would stay again. Check in was simple, Avery was super kind to my child, which is always 5 stars in my book. The room itself was nice, a great amount of space for two people. I visited the lounge for the wine hour. The wine was good and flowing. There was a lovely group on a girls trip that were again, super kind to my child. Due to sleeping late we got room service for breakfast, which was delivered hot and was pretty good. Reasons why not five stars: No hand soap in the bathroom (I used my own), one wash cloth, a kitchenette with no dishes. While I'm sure these items can be requested, they are also things if I need to use I wouldn't want to wait 15-20 minutes for. It was also really cold in the room. I adjusted the thermostat but didn't want to make it hot either. If I was longing around in the room more it would've been quite uncomfortable but we were out and about. Room service took longer than they said. I was told about 15 minutes but it took nearly 40. I don't mind the wait because I want well prepared food, just tell me a longer time upfront. Finally I could not use the in room phone or tv to call the front desk or room service, I had to use my own phone. For me, these problems weren't the worst but would love to see them fixed. Sharing this experience as it was a safety concern that I feel others should be aware of. I traveled to NYC and stayed at this hotel for a one-night business trip (as I have several times before). Upon check-in, I noted the room was in less than optimal condition (bathroom sink was stopped up, shower handle fell off in my hand, etc) but given I was on just a quick trip it did not concern me. I got into my room by 8pm and promptly went to bed. At 1:30am I was awoken by the sound of the lock turning on my door. I sat up in a panic as the door to my room was opened and a man began to enter. I immediately began screaming and yelling as loud as I could which startled him, and he began to back out of the room, saying it was supposed to be vacant. I rushed to the door and threw the latch and deadlock on (which I had unfortunately forgotten). I ran to the phone to call the front desk for help - the phone was dead. I called the front desk with my cell - she noted that nobody had entered the hotel or checked in since she had been on shift, but she would immediately have the maintenance man patrol. She called back shortly and noted that the maintenance man swore it was not him who accessed my room, and he was patrolling the floors and staircases. I had her stay on the phone with me and then she suggested she escort me to another room for the remainder of the night - promising me this would be resolved first thing in the morning with review of security cameras. I give her credit for being empathetic while I was extremely rattled. Needless to say - I didn't sleep the remainder of the night. The next morning I visited the front desk and they told me the manager would be in at 10:30am and could assist me then. Later that day, the assistant manager called me and said that they were pulling the key log and would have a resolution soon - cameras actually are not on each floor. She was understanding and apologetic - and I requested multiple times to please be kept in the loop on resolution to who accessed my room. However... that was the last time I heard from the hotel. It has been 4 days since I checked out. What concerns me and makes me want to share this story is that - mistakes happen. If there had been a mistaken access to my room (that somehow happened at 1:30am?) I believe that would have been easily shared back to me in a prompt manner. Instead, there has been no additional information - which feels cagey and nefarious. Needless to say - I won't stay here again.
