Hotel Aline

Not what I was expecting. But after staying here 4 nights and also having read the reviews and viewing the photos, it would seem that the quality has deteriorated from 7 years ago and or the quality of the rooms here vary quite a bit. We got a room with twin beds, a shower and sink but no toilet. The shared toilet works and the sink and toilet are clean. But the room it is in is in disrepair and very unappealing. There are 2 toilets. One has a bidet and the other has a washing machine. Fortunately for me I brought my own tissue because there was no toilet paper in the toilet one morning and the staff had not arrived yet. We didn't get a bath mat as per the photo. We only got towels. Our bedroom door sticks and is very hard to open. Makes a lot of noise. The side table was dirty when we arrived but the staff very promptly cleaned it. He also changed the mattress I got with a softer even/level one. The one I got initially had creaky springs and was sloping to one side (!?). There is a fan in the room which we made use of during a warm night. The room is quite spacious. The lights in the room work. And there are 2 free power points - one on each side of the bed There is a balcony and the door opens to fresh air. We got roof tops and a bit of a mountain view. Door is in very good condition which is much more than I can say about the bedside table, chairs in the room or shower cubicle. There are quite a few hangers in the cupboard which is useful. I had to give these a wipe down before I felt confident about using them though. There is one kettle for everyone to share at the end of the corridor. Vending machine has inexpensive water and soft drinks. Having been here 4 nights we have met 3 different staff so far. I'm glad it was the guy who met us first because I doubt the others could have changed my mattress. The lift, building and corridor really need some work. Looks quite a dump. I wouldn't say this was inexpensive but looking at prices for November it is much less than October. The bed is made and toiletries replenished daily. The saving grace here is that the Internet is free and fast. However this is only 10 to 15 minutes walk from the station and the city centre so for the price, it's good. Nothing leaks in the bedroom and there is hot water for shower. The room is clean enough overall but everything else is well worn esp the tiles in the shower - it doesn't look anything like the spanking new bathroom as seen in one of the photos. So take your chance. I stayed in a 1 star hotel in Madrid and it was very luxurious, faultless and extremely clean and in very good order compared to this one. As there is no separate category for state of the place I've included that as part of the room itself rating because it does contribute to the overall experience.

Ok, I would have scored it a bit higher had the original description been a bit more honest and we knew what to expect. It's less of a hotel and more of a private room hostel. It's the top floor of an old building which I'm not sure is even inhabited as it was pretty empty and looked somewhat abandoned overall. As we are experienced travelers and have been to many a hostel it was not the worst thing to happen. The rooms were extremely dated and everything in them looked as if it had been donated from somewhere else as nothing matched. It was however very clean and the nice girl there who took care of the place did a very good job every day making sure the rooms were well kept and the beds were made. We got a room with a shower assuming, which was on us, that it mean we also had a toilet. This was wrong, but again on us. We did have the luxury of a shower but there were two shared bathrooms for the entire place, around 14 rooms. Also note our shower was literally in the corner of our room but they did have a moveable partition we could put up for privacy. With all that said the location was perfect and you could not stay anywhere else even close to this area for the price they offer so if you are looking for a great deal and don't mind hostel-like accommodations a then definitely give this place a go!
