Hôtel Abaca Messidor by HappyCulture

*TLDR: Dirty, suspected bed bugs, mold everywhere.* BEWARE!! Incredibly disappointing and stressful visit. My partner and I booked this hotel for our 3 day trip in Paris based on all of the positive reviews we read here saying how clean the rooms were and how nice the staff were. When we got here, we were extremely disappointed. The rooms were very very dirty and looked nothing like the photos on the website or how the reviews described. The entire bathroom was COVERED in mold (see photo), the carpets were dirty and dusty, the kettle was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned at all (see photo), the drain in the shower was completely clogged and flooded every time we showered. And worst of all, the mattresses were absolutely covered in stains (see photo) and dirt and did not have a proper mattress cover. The “cover” was like paper and only barely covered the top part, it did not properly fit around the entire mattress or the sides at all. We did a thorough bed bug check and found several areas with indications of bed bugs: black/brown dots, seemingly casings/skin, rust colored stains etc (see photos). We informed the front desk about our issues after our first night. The man at the front desk was nice, he came up and looked at the issues we showed him (the areas on the mattress and mold in the bathroom) and he offered us a new room. We went to the new room and checked once again for bed bugs. The mattress in the second room had ACTUAL dead BUGS on it when we lifted it up to check. We didn’t end up saying anything to the staff this second time because we were already utterly exhausted and frustrated. We just put all of our luggage in the bathroom as far away from the bed as possible and hoped for the best. We tried to spend a little time as possible in the hotel. Overall, bad, stressful experience and now we have lots of anxiety about potentially bringing bed bugs back home. I guess it’s our fault for booking a 3-star hotel that was very affordable. You get what you pay for. The pros: nice area with lots of restaurants, bakeries and shops and located right across the street from a metro stop. The staff were all nice and helpful for non-French speaking tourists. There was free coffee and tea and a water filling station in the lobby as well which was very convenient. But the cons outweigh any pros. Would absolutely NOT stay here again.

great staff! They were so lovely and welcoming, absolute delight to speak to :) the location is perfect, literally a one minute walk to the nearest metro. The hotel has lots of cafes and restaurants shops nearby and safe area, the rooms are cleaned daily and bathroom, bed and heating was perfect. The only thing i would say is the carpet is very old and if they change that i would gave overall 100% score but great value for money.
