Kimpton Atlântico Algarve by IHG

Got a non smoking room which reeked of cigarettes. The people above me were non stop moving furniture all day I called the front desk to complain it still continued. The rooms are very outdated and for the price I believe it could be better

Location was nice, it was accessible and taxis were readily available. The hotel itself was visibly nice, though it could be maintained better. The room was average and pretty dated, the toilet flush did not work properly (this was flagged), and we continued to have issues until the day that we left. The pool bar is quite small and didn’t appear to be open when we tried to get drinks, same goes for the towel collection point (it’s in the same section as the bar but the shutters were down the days that we were there (so you’d have to request towels at the bar). The breakfast was pretty average, there isn’t much else to add. The service itself was poor, in my opinion, which is why I don’t agree that this is a 5 star hotel. Good service would have made a huge difference in my rating. One late evening, I had asked the reception to send a bottle of water to our room (which I was happy to pay for), however they advised that they are only able to provide 1 bottle of water to guests each day. I’d shared that the previous reception had given us water but she insisted that we could only have a bottle each day, she then advised that we purchase it from the bar, so we did. I don’t think it’s right to deny guests water, it isn’t a ridiculous request and as I mentioned, I would have been more than happy to pay for it. On another occasion we’d asked for a bucket of ice and cork screw as we’d just purchased a lovely local wine and were excited to taste it, however, we were advised that it wasn’t possible and that we’d have to go down to the pool bar to have the bottle opened and request ice (which they’d provided in a cup, as buckets weren’t available). We also had to request an iron almost daily, I’m not sure why this isn’t provided in the room and why the housekeeping staff kept taking it back each day. The ironing board itself was flimsy and bent (meaning the iron wouldn’t stay on its dock and would slide off), this could cause a serious accident and should have been replaced, I don’t believe guests should have to point it out. The spa was lovely, we enjoyed a relaxing massage and had a chance to use the indoor pool. The service in the spa was good and the women were very polite. The pool area was nice, the views towards the beach were beautiful. Overall, it was a nice location, average hotel and it’s a shame the service wasn’t any better. I’ve had better service in hostels which speaks volumes.
