Kimpton Tres Rios All-Inclusive Resort

Before I tell you why you shouldn’t come, I’d like to thank some of the staff and servers who made our stay a bit enjoyable. Veronica from concierge, Maribel and Itzel from the restaurant, and Luis our shuttle driver to the airport. Thank you! Now why was our trip unenjoyable? You must attend a mandatory presentation. Our first night was ok. The day after arriving we had a call around 7:50am. We had slept late so we felt lazy and didn’t answer. They then called again and my partner answered and was told we needed to be downstairs for the presentation at 8:30am. I told my partner I wasn’t in the mood to go so he left without me. 5 minutes later he calls me and says he was told if I didn’t attend the presentation we would be charged $499 a night! WHAT!?! They say that our package was so cheap because we had agreed to do the presentation, something that isn’t explained until after you make your first payment. Upset that I was forced to go, we ended up attending the presentation. Our presentation guide Xochil, seemed very pleasant and charismatic. We got along so well and felt a genuine connection with her. She showed us around the property and explained their current projects. Once the tour ended she took us to a “private business area” where we would discuss what they could offer us. We were not allowed to use our phones or wear sunglasses in this area. We sat down and she went over the benefits we would have as members. Dirt cheap hotel and flight bookings, money reimbursements, etc. We honestly weren’t interested at all since our purpose of vacationing was to get away from the stress of living in NY. We kindly declined and that’s when she switched. She became more aggressive in the way she spoke to us, insisting why we should invest. We went from spending the max of 2hours with her to 4hours! All I could see behind her was a sunny day and I wanted to get out of there! She kept lowering the price but we kept declining. At one point she called her manager to speak to us about something else that wasn’t the investment which took up more of our time. I was starting to have anxiety because I wanted to leave that I began to hyperventilate and told Xochil I needed fresh air and walked out. I took a few minutes and determined to walk back in and sternly say we’re not interested. I walked back in, told her we didn’t want to do this that I felt uncomfortable and she STILL continued to insist we invest. My partner had to put a stop to her and firmly said “listen we don’t want it it’s a no and we aren’t changing our mind”. She then looked at me with such anger, got up and walked away. Never in my life have I ever experienced a situation like this. We felt harassed, disrespected, and seen as just a cash cow. The place honestly isn’t that great and I can see why they are thirsty scum bags looking to take your hard earned money. You’re supposed to come here to relax, not do business. I would never in my life come here again or refer anyone. I’d rather spend thousands for a high quality resort.

Location is great. Waiters and other service personal were very good. Manager is a jerk, very inflexible. Restaurants very nice and most were clean. Pizza restaurant was full of Coati and disgusting; some thing to avoid. Hallways full of raccoon feces and urine. Our grandson got sick one night and womitted in his bed. Manager was not understanding and charged us $220 for sleets to be replaced. So don’t let your kids get sick or have a nose bleed or you’ll be punished financially. Location is wonderful.
