Luxe Apartment by Excel/ London City Airport

London Heathrow Airport is a bustling hub, offering an extensive range of amenities and services. Its vast terminals can be overwhelming, but efficient signage helps navigate. Varied dining, shopping, and lounges cater to diverse preferences. Connectivity via public transport is convenient, though security queues can be lengthy during peak hours. Overall, a well-equipped airport for a comfortable travel experience.

It is a very extensive airport. It has a very diverse group of shops and it was nicely decorated for the holidays and the people were pretty nice. I wish I would have had time to shop but getting there an hour and a half before departure wasn't long enough. I wish there were more information booths for international travelers along with how to request assistance with wheelchair transportation to the terminals. It was definitely a longer extensive process to get through terminal trains, security, waiting for elevators, bathrooms, etc. There's a lot of walking with a few auto walks, 1 broken. Security: I had to be deeply padded down due to my two knee replacements, wait in line with 4 to 5 people as security went through their bags for liquids (standing about addl 20min). I didn't understand the clear bag policy for liquids. They had me remove all of them from my luggage that were in my thicker Ziploc bags to their thin clear bags which was highly impractical. Much easier in the US. The check bag station wasn't clear how to attach the printed luggage tag & the guy managing it was rather grumpy after telling people to "put the red dots together". We are used to pulling the tag backside off to get the sticky portion to adhere together. Their process was much better than the US once I understood how to do it. Overall it was nice to stay in the hotel at terminal 2-3 onsite & didn't need a taxi. But you will certainly do a lot of walking. I would get there 2-3hrs in advance if you didn't want to rush with your heavy, numerous bags.
