Generally avoid staying in the city unless you know the hotel is newer, safe area, and has cheaper parking. It’s not any one of the employees fault, it’s a systemic issue that started from the top. And so the Mark Hopkins hotel is no exception to this rule. The Mark Hopkins is old and smelly just as the majority of the places in the city. We had the window creaked a little open the entire time. We got single King Bed room and it was smaller than expected. Pictures are deceiving but that’s expected. Pictures illustrated the classic look. However the reality it’s classic mixed with old, broken, smelly, and some new things put in place that mess up the theme anyway. The toilet flushes funny. It only rinses the inner bottom of the toilet so the remaining waste is still stuck at the top. So then you just have to settle and push the remaining waste with your hand. Also smells a bit in the lobby. You can tell they try to freshen it up using their methods but it doesn’t fully work. Key cards we had to reset everyday if you wanted to use the gym. In regards to parking your car I stride through the trials of city to save from paying for parking. I always leave the car empty or at least hide the item under the seat if you’re lazy. I’m going on my 5th night and hoping our rental does not get broken into.

I love how pet friendly this hotel is. NO PET FEE 👏🏼! Highly recommend visiting this hotel in the holiday season. Lobby was nicely decorated. It’s less than a mile to walk to Union Square where all the Christmas stuff is in the city. (Beware of the steep hills LOL) Also, shout out to the nicest front desk agent (Anna/Amy not sure) who made me feel like an elite member. I just recently signed up for the membership but she upgraded me to an ocean view room and offered me late check out. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE. Had an amazing stay and I will be back in the future!

The hotel is in great location that is safe and convenient walking distance to restaurants, cafes, and Trader Joe's. I was able to walk around at night by myself. The rooms are old but clean, with a nice lobby and Top of the Mark has the greatest view to see the entire city. The best part is the service there-everyone works there seem to be friendly and made me feel home. Especially Manuel who helped me when I need additional items and replacement. He went above and beyond to help me out. I will like to come back again if I visit SF in the future.
