The hotel is located in what can only be described as an industrial area. It’s an odd location but once in the grounds it quickly becomes a distant memory. The hotel and grounds are truly special. Lots of green grass, trees and visually attractive buildings. The whole place is well cared for and looked after. The pool has lovely views and is served by a bar with drinks and snacks. We loved our time here and had a wonderful time. It’s a nice place to retreat to after a day or evening in Matera which is equally beautiful. The on-site restaurant has a great chef who clearly loves cooking. Well worth a stay if you’re in the area. The only negative we found was the shower was a tad weak but otherwise the rooms were very comfortable with good air conditioning.

Visited matera for the first time in Sept 2023 Decided to stay at this location after reviewing feedback and photos online, and also the Hotel website. As stated by another reviewer, the hotel is an oasis of charm and calm . It is 10 minutes away from the main city centre, and in a gated part of the city.. getting here involves navigating through an industrial area, but once you pass through the gates, it is a lovely and tranquil place to stay. The rooms are super comfortable. I booked a double deluxe room that had a patio area. The quality of furniture and room. This was outstanding. Check in with super simple, and Enzo, provided an excellent start to my stay here . I had hired a car and the good news is the venue has ample onsite parking. The grounds are extremely well lit and well kept. It is sufficiently excluded that you can get lost in thoughts of being in the city, because of how secluded and private it is. Breakfast in the morning is served in a beautiful restaurant or outside weather permitting . The service is simple, but effective and the breakfast options on offer are aligned to the star of the hotel. This is incredibly warm, hospitable and beautiful place to be and we would definitely return It comes highly recommended for anyone, wanting to spend their first time in Matera.

For our stay in Matera we wanted a cozy place not too far from the center with a swimming pool. Masseria Santa Lucia seemed to be the perfect place. We booked a room with living room and kitchen for three nights. Upon our arrival we were escorted to our room. The first thing I noticed was that the room had a very strong foul smell as if it hadn’t been used for a long time. It took a day and a lot of airing up the room to get rid of the smell as well as the intervention of the cleaning lady to clean up the coffee machine which had rotten coffee from previous residents and the tray full of residues. This in combination with very cheap furniture’s (IKEA type) with a bed that creaks at the least movement you make and paper thin walls which allow you to hear what happens in the rooms around you are not the best start. And when you want to take a shower, you really need a lot of patience because there is zero pressure. The staff also seems not to be very enthusiastic to be there, the guy at the pool looked like he had had a very long bad night. All this is a shame because the Masseria really looks fabulous, the pool area is fantastic, the terrace with the breakfast area is gorgeous, the gardeners do an incredible job, I have rarely seen a property as well maintained as this one with grass that could only be found in an English garden. My recommendation to the staff, get someone to do a final check on the cleaning and fix the plumbing in the showers and ask your staff to smile, that part doesn’t cost any money because at nearly € 200 a night I have a difficult time recommending this place at this time.

The hotel is an oasis of calm and relaxation. As others have posted the surrounding area is industrial units etc, but these do not impact upon you when in. The service is warm and relaxed. Attentive without being pushy. The place is a mix of old and new, beautifully done, without losing any of the sense of history. It's a 4 km walk to the old part of Matera, which is uphill on the way. But you will have earned your gelato+/- biere. Not for the frail in the heat.
