Monkey Toe Guesthouse exceeded my expectations during my first guesthouse experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the opportunity to forge meaningful connections with fellow travelers. What sets this place apart is the trio of 4-story buildings under one owner's care. This unique setup allowed me to immerse myself in lively gatherings and parties, yet retreat to a peaceful, undisturbed bedroom whenever I desired solitude. And the guesthouse managed to strike the perfect balance between sociable and tranquil atmospheres. I made new friends effortlessly, and the absence of noise interference from downstairs was a welcome surprise. For solo travelers seeking a quiet escape, Monkey Toe caters to your needs. One of the standout features was the host's warm and approachable demeanor. While she didn't overwhelm with conversation, her ever-present smile made interactions enjoyable. What's more, the guesthouse's activity recommendations and pricing proved to be competitive, ensuring a hassle-free experience. Monkey Toe Guesthouse left me with unforgettable memories, thanks to its fantastic community, exceptional host, and well-thought-out facilities. Great for socializing and the included breakfast. More on the party side so not great if you want a quiet spot. Located next to bars in a motor tourist parking area. The dorms could be better, as the beds are too close to each other and curtains too short...

My experience would've been so much better had it not been for two things. Housekeeping. I don't like to speak poorly of housekeeping staff as they are often overworked and under-appreciated. Beware - the hostel shuts off the a/c from noon to 5pm. Not a HUGE deal, but it was annoying when the AC was shut off early at 11am by housekeeping. She even left the door wide open for all the hot air to come into the room. Looking to proactively nip the issue in the bud as I booked for 3 nights, I asked her if she could simply shut the door whenever she came in and clean the room/bathroom so that hot air wouldn't come in. She didn't bother to close the door once and left it OPEN EVERY FREAKING TIME. I even informed staff in person and via email and, apparently, the message was still lost. Was it negligence or incompetence? Who knows? Why does it matter??? Because it's HOT AF in Thailand. Security- My favorite shirt was stolen. Others had the same issue. I stayed at the 2nd monkey house, which was opposite the Original Hostel and the door was always left wide open, meaning anyone could come in if they wanted, as there wasn't a proper lobby or any staff present. For those above reasons, I have to rate this a 3/5.
