Good hotel, and great value. Place is accommodating towards guests. The location is okay and a bit of a walk from major attractions but nothing over the top. Rooms are equipped well with comfortable beds but note if an extra mattress is requested that mattress is extremely hard. One issue is the lack of seal on the entrance door and balcony door in our room, allowing some air to flow in, this is an issue in the cold Hanoi climate, however there is a reverse cycle aircon which can be used to heat the room. WiFi is okay, speeds vary and signal is mediocre. Breakfast doesn't have much to choose from but is very good from what's available. Views are great from the restaurant and staff are friendly. For the price per night here, it's a pretty good choice. Perhaps choose a place closer to the old quarter, can't go wrong here though.

Rooms are clean and tidy but the staff do a bare minimum in terms of service and help. The hotel itself is a bit out of the way of the old town, prepare to walk 20 minutes to get right in the thick of the historic quarter. Some nice cafes close by that attract an expat crowd.

I stayed there both trips, in 2007, then in 2015 after the renovation and name change. I absolutely fell in love with the place. Best service of anywhere, charming, quaint, neither too big or small, breakfast is better than most, easy to find, good wi-fi, great location and they have bath tubs. The first time I got the small room and the second time I got a big room for only $45 CDN. I had a bicycle both times, with a locked/ watched spot outside during the day and after 10 pm they brought it in the lobby. They do this a lot over there, but anyway it's great. I have no desire to find another hotel in Hanoi. Maybe others don't like it so much, so i don't have to worry about getting my room. ha
