NH Amsterdam Leidseplein

Let me start by saying this is in prime location. Very close to museums, Amsterdam Centraal, food, and more. We were pleasantly surprised with how great the area was! However, there were a few mentionable issues that I would like to address. 1st being that when we walked into our room (in mid January) it was about 30 degrees. We struggled fixing the thermostat and could not figure out why it wasn’t working (getting any warmer) and after about 2 hours, I went to check the view outside our room and a window was wide open. No wonder it was freezing. We had called down twice about thermostat and they suggested to just leave and let it get warm while we came back but I am just glad we found out the window had been left open by someone either cleaning or staying here.. We then went to make some tea in the am with the heating pot left in the room and realized someone had left coffee in there?? Chunks of brown water in this pot so I could only hope someone didn’t know how to make their instant coffee — we did not use. Why was this not cleaned out I have no clue. On the first night we got there, there was a siren going off for about 4 hours. Sounded like a fire alarm but we ended up going to a bar and thought when we came back it would be off. The front desk said it was because someone broke the elevator? It went on until about 1am and was super loud since we stayed maybe 5-6 doors down. That elevator was out of service for the rest of the time we were there unfortunately so we were redirected to the other side of the building, but they told us every day it would have been fixed by the time we got back so walking over there to see if closed off every day was a bit annoying. With that being said, I leave 3 stars because I loved the location. I don’t feel that any employee had tried to fix any of the issues or seem to care that our room was absolutely freezing (not even an offer to wait in another room). I’ve had experiences at hotels where their number one goal is to reconcile the issues they’ve created and offer some type of compensation with how many times we had left the hotel to grab a tea elsewhere, wait until our room warms up, leave in hopes to stop hearing an alarm — nothing offered and here it just felt like they were waiting on the phone for me to finish what I needed to say and move on with their day.

This hotel and the staff were EXCELLENT! We were a little concerned in the beginning that we would be further away from the sights and attractions but we weren’t at all. This place was very clean, quiet and comfortable! The sights were maybe 1.5 miles tops walking distance from everywhere. Museums, eateries, shopping and the Anne Frank house all not that far away. After walking around we were pleased at not getting a room near the heart of the city center. At bedtime the tourist noise would have bothered us. In my opinion, the best part (aside from being in Amsterdam) was the staff at this hotel! Natalia was super special! On our second day she surprised us by acknowledging my birthday and our wedding anniversary! She was also helpful in giving us directions to places nearby. She was friendly and never made us feel like we were a bother. We would 100% stay here next time we’re in Amsterdam!
