Rock House - Karen

Located in a residential area, this hidden place could do so much better. Designed to have a rocky outdoor theme, Rock House is inspired by Mount Kenya, clever idea, almost well executed, and certainly poorly managed. Security non-existent: Even though located in a gated community guarded by a private security company with a barrier to control movements in and out of the estate, the premises itself did not have a single security guard. We visited during a busy festive period, and it was obvious from the moment we drove in that they were understaffed. Visitors parked wrongly, blocking the driveway. Dining/Food: Then, there was a buffet, which was selling at Kes1,500 (approx US$10) per plate. Buffet had very limited variety, - two proteins (I think mutton and chicken), two starches, and vegetables. I was surprised to learn that you could only serve once. 😳 Not good value. Service was poor. As much as they were overwhelmed, the management should have hired more staff, even if just for that day. Amenities could do better: Swimming pool has one shower, which is also the toilet. Bad bad. Clientele: seem to attract younger rowdy clientele eager to have a daytime pool party with loud music and who are oblivoius of other guests and generally lack etiquette, eg. one young lady took my daughtes slippers as she was in the pool. The kind of behaviour that will definitely repulse the other guests. Families will avoid such crowds. The management needs to determine who their target market is. If they can iron out these small issues, the place has great potential.
