Rodeway Inn near Venice Beach

Do not come here unless you want little more than a bed. My biggest gripe right off the bat is that there was no coffee, which it to claims to provide for free. The bed was old and the box spring was visibly disintegrating. The comforter had multiple burn marks. The "cleaning" staff did not change the bedding, sweep, or mop during my 3-night stay. They made the bed, swapped the used towels, and provided additional soap and shampoo... that was it. I left a $20 tip on my second night hoping they would maybe sweep or something but they left the tip there and did nothing "extra". There is no coffee maker or alarm clock. There were no lamps of any kind, only potlights whoae switches cannot be reached from the bed. The "desk" is notched out of the dresser and there were no power outlets nearby for a laptop. There's an ethernet outlet but it does nothing, so Wi-Fi is the only option. The chair that accompanies the desk is an extremely uncomfortable, four legged, 60+ pound monstrosity with disintregrating upholstry and covered in stains that appear to be from bodily fluids. There doesn't appear to be any weather-stripping on the door so bugs can (and do) occasionally stroll in under the door. There was no facial tissue. Oddly enough, there was a safe in which one could store valuables. Paradoxically, the fact there is a safe makes one feel unsafe. Plus, I wasn't offered the combination to access the safe, so it was useless to me. I brought my work laptop with me everywhere. There is no sound insulation, so I could hear every step in the room above and I could clearly hear the television in the room beside me. It would make sense for adjacent rooms on the same floor to have mirror image floor plans so that a TV isn't on the other side of the wall from the head of the bed, but that wasn't the case here. There is no lobby of any kind. There was a lobby at one time, but it has been converted into a storage room and is very unsightly (glass walls full of junk). The one person that was the only employee I saw during my stay (and likely the owner) talks to you from behind a glass window while you stand outside, as if you were at a sketchy parking garage or an old grimey movie theatre. The inside of his office reeks of urine - yes, it's that bad that you can smell it from outside. When I checked out, I didn't recieve so much as a "thank you". In fact, he seemed annoyed that I rang the bell when I suppose it was assumed that I would use the key drop off at the ungodly hour of 8am. They claim there is parking but there are less parking spaces than rooms, and the spaces are very small. The people with SUVs purposefully take up more than one spot so they have room to open their doors. I had to park on the street all 3 nights. There was litter strewn about the parking lot and many guests seem to put their food garbage in the corridors outside, I suppose to avoid drawing pests into their rooms. I didn't see any cockroaches as some other reviewers have claimed but that could also be because I didn't bring any food into my room. All in all, this place is extremely overpriced, out of date, poorly designed and maintained, uncomfortable, unsightly, and just plain gross and sketchy. Also it's about an hour's walk from Venice Beach - I wouldn't call that "near"... and THERE IS NO COFFEE, FREE OR OTHERWISE!!!

Tiny little room but just enough for 2 people. There’s a vending machine that has Coca Cola, sprite, Dr Pepper I believe, and arrowhead water - but the water was sold out. We were able to book a room not even an hour prior to check-in. Bed is comfy. TV with multiple stations. No coffee maker in the room but you do get a microwave. I would stay here again, we had no problems. Parking is easy to find either in the lot or on the street.
