They tried to scam us by checking us in early (before 12am) without mentioning anything about wanting an extra DAY'S charge for these few hours. They hassled us multiple times about it over the duration of our stay. This is NOT normal service for a hotel. Either the room is available when we arrive (and you check us in), or it's not and we wait. You can't check us in without being up front and honest about additional charges.
