It has been my ambition to review only places that I thought were above and beyond the ordinary. Reluctantly, I have to reconsider this policy after my stay here. I am absolutely astounded that this ’hotel’ has three stars on Google and 4.5 on Trip Advisor. It is, without question, the worst place I’ve ever stayed — and, trust me, that’s saying something. First off, as a previous reviewer suggested, I checked in at Skycity, but, then, with no explanation, I was led to ‘Rich Hotel,’ which not only is the most inaptly named accommodation ever, but is in a totally different part of the building. (More about that in a moment.) The room was tiny. I get it ... it’s Hong Kong, and space is at a premium, but this was absurd. Enough room for the bed and that was it. The blankets were stained. I won’t say with what, exactly, except to wonder how previous occupants EVER could have considered getting intimate in this room. Because it was late, I decided to make the best of a bad situation. I found a shop that sold local beers, bought six of them, and figured that with liquid fortification I’d get through the night. Then I opened the mini fridge to keep the beer cold, and thought surely something had died in it. No one had bothered to check for food left behind when they last cleaned the room, and who knows when that was. Fine, said I, I’ll just drink fast. And then the cockroaches came. Big ones, scampering across the bed. And that was it — I booked a room at a real hotel and got the hell out of there. I would have stopped to complain, but there was no one to complain to, because THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. I could, I suppose, have dragged my bags through the crowded building, to a different bank of elevators, and waited in line for 10 minutes, but I just wanted out. About the location .... despite what Google Maps will tell you, this place is located inside Chungking Mansions, which you can read about elsewhere. Maps shows it on the other (fashionable) side of the street, and it’s hard to believe that this wasn’t done intentionally. I would NEVER have booked this if I’d known the actual location. Anyway, once inside Chungking, you have to make sure to locate the correct bank of elevators, and get in a long line for either even or odd floors, and it’s just a hassle. In the end, I tried to save a few bucks, and wound up paying for two different places. I get that some people are on strict budgets, but there are cheaper places in Hong Kong, and I can’t imagine them being worse than this.

The place is quite small. By quite I mean, very. In a triple room, the space that was left for us to move was a 1 feet by 4 feet corridor. The bathrooms have shower right above the commode which is practically disgusting. The facilities inside the room are average. The staff is good though.

We booked hotel sky star and when we arrived at the place, they brought us to sky lark which was a couple of floors higher and the guy told us in the reception to comeback and check in after 2hrs. Imagine WE JUST ARRIVED after a long tiring flight and were made to wait and after coming the guy told us to take all our luggage to another block. Finally we arrived at hotel skycity. Imagine the shock when we saw our room which was so much smaller than it appeared in the pics online. It was way too cramped for 2 people. Thankfully it was just for 2 days. On the second day, when we were outside, someone cleaned up the room and took away the towels without us requesting for room service and even used the bathroom. The bathroom was smelling so bad when we came back. Terrible experience. It was our first time in Hong Kong. Will be more cautious the next time.
