Excellent self-contained rooms with excellent service, good connection to Manhattan and loud elevated trains running next door. 40.745752 -73.945253 Pearson Street is a side street of Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, Queens NY. It is at a junction of 4 subway lines. Below Sonder Court Square, the underground G-train to Brooklyn begins. To its left is the noisy elevated 7-train Court Square station to Manhattan. On Jackson Avenue next to Brooks 1890 restaurant is the entrance to Court Square-23 Street (former 23 Street-Ely Avenue station) for the E- and M-trains to Manhattan. The E-line connects to Jamaica Center-Pearson/Archer for the AirTrain to JFK. The connection between the 3 stations and 4 subway lines is too complicated to explain: search the internet and follow the signs. Summary: Sonder Court Square is perfectly connected to the subways to Manhattan and JFK. Sonder is one of the new hybrid companies like Lyric and Blueground that combine elements of hotels and apartment rentals. Unlike Airbnb, which consists mainly of individuals renting out their homes, Sonder leases and manages its own accommodation, which is licensed as hotels. Sonder Court Square sits above a new 3-year-old 3-storey office building and starts on 4F to 9F. A rooftop bar on 10F awaits completion, as does the Chinese restaurant on 1F and the speak easy bar in the basement. Each level has 12 rooms in different arrangments with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. The rooms are clean, although the bedding had to be changed due to blood stains. Wi-Fi reception was excellent. The modern rooms are not like the expensive worn-out hotel rooms on Manhattan Island. You have only to take the subway to Manhattan, that’s all. By the way, Queens has many good and not too expensive restaurants and it is much more a local affair without the tourist traps. Sonder Court Square is not designed as a hotel. It has no hotel amenities, such as reception, lunch buffet or bar. It offers self-contained rooms or rental units for short-term stays, although room prices are the same as hotel rates. Each room has a well-equipped kitchen (Trader Joe and Target near), cable television and Wi-Fi reception. You enter with a mobile key (often doesn’t work outside and in elevators) and communicate with an app. Instead of long-term stayers, Sonder attracts short-term hotel guests. Now an employee sits in the corridor behind a makeshift desk to welcome guests, provide information and solve small problems. Their service is essential and appreciated. Thank you, Geraldine & Zack. In May 2023, the only complaint about room 510 on the inside corner without a view was the vibration and noise of the elevated 7-subway trains. When a 7-train passes, the building vibrates and the subway produces the sound of a freight train. Only the noise of the window air conditioner (not a split air conditioner) masked the sound of the subway a little. A generator of white noise is available. If you scroll down to the bottom of the app, there is a disclaimer. Bring your earplugs. Choose a room on Pearson Street. Geraldine found room 908 on the 9th floor on the Jackson Avenue side. Still the same subway noise, but without the vibrations and a very nice view on Manhattan Island. Rooms 1, 10, 11 and 12 on the inside have no view and are noisy, rooms 6, 7, 8 and 9 on Jackson Avenue are noisy but have a view and rooms 2, 3, 4 and 5 on Pearson Street have no view but are less noisy. Sonder Court Square offers clean and well-maintained self-contained rooms with excellent service, good connections to Manhattan and loud elevated trains running next door. Recommended with ear plugs.

Everything about our experience at Sonder was amazing. From check in until we left, we were made feel welcome by the staff at the front door/welcome area. Anything we requested beforehand — and during our stay — was no problem for the people at Sonder and delivered very quickly. The facilities and apartment was amazing and had everything we needed. Location was ideal, too. As well as that, the app made everything seamless. And because of the security codes throughout the building, we felt safe at all times. Finally, the staff there were fantastic. Geraldine in particular was brilliant and deserves a special mention.
