We stayed here for a 4 night stay in Porto. The location of the hotel is excellent. It’s a 10 min walk up into the town. A 10 min walk over to the Gaia, the other side of the river and a 30 second walk to the river. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of port and a Pasteis de Nata – which was nice touch. We were shown to our room. We were not happy with the room, it was quite small and we didn’t feel that that was the kind of room that we booked. My husband went to have a chat with reception and it was agreed that we could come back to reception and the manager would come and talk to us. The manager was Marcella, and she was a pleasure to deal with. She showed us three rooms that were available and allowed us to pick. Change was made and we were all happy. The room was spotless and was the bathroom and comfy beds. We didn’t eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the breakfast, but Marcella and her team were great to deal with and the customer service was excellent.

I recommend and I would stay here again. I like how understanding and flexible the management was and accommodated request for a two-hour earlier check in due to our long trip and also since it was off peak season and the room was already ready. The receptionist was friendly, courteous, informative. The location is central and buses stop right in front. It is about 10-min walk from Sao Bento train and 12-min walk to the Caves Calem - this is the nearest warehouse after the bridge on the other side of the river. Walkable to tourist areas. Heater works, as it was late November and rainy season. Hot shower worked, too. They provided complimentary water daily. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Room was clean. I am very particular about noise and while you could hear occasional baggage strolling, it was quiet inside the room and at night, despite central location. Good-smelling lotion, shampoo and soap. There is a $12 travel tax that is not included in your booking.

Fancy price without the fancy place. I will say the service is great and the location is wonderful. Just a skip away from the river without the noise of the strip. Now on to the negatives. For the almost $250 a night I paid extra expecting something fancy with working air-conditioning. We filter on booking.com for places with AC. THE AIR-CONDITIONING DOES NOT WORK DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING ONLINE. Even in cool weather, expect to have a very uncomfortable hot room all night. Stay elsewhere. Believe me. Their central air system blows HOT air into the room. We would wake up drenched in sweat and slept horribly. The beds are not comfortable nor are the pillows. Rooms are just meh. They take up half the room with the bathroom. They gave us a fan for the room, which was really kind of the staff. But it still didn't work barely blew any air and was cheap. I would say all the air conditioners do not work well properly in any of these buildings so save your cash and stay at another hotel just one street over which I saw for £80 a night. At least you'll save money for being a little hot. When I complained about it they said it's working when we put our hands on the vents and it didn't blow any cold air. They blame it on energy laws of Portugal but the other hotels I stayed at were very comfortable and cool. Their breakfast was not included for such a high price, go eat at Miss Pavlova instead for less than £10 a person for ready made coffee and breakfast vs £15 a person for a buffet. Don't fall for the fancy price of this place all the hotels in this neighborhood are similar. The only positive thing about this place was the very kind staff and central location. I don't blame the staff for the facilities. But they really need to get to the bottom of fixing this this place would be absolutely unbearable in the peak spring or summer. Consider yourself warned.
