Upon check-in, I thought that the room was smaller than shown online. Tyler immediately took care of us and gave me a free upgrade to a much nicer and much larger room! The room had an actual kitchen with full size fridge. I've never seen that before i a NYC hotel. Overall, service from the staff here was top notch. Any requests from the front desk were taken care of immediately. Marmara is smaller boutique hotel, and I mean it in a good way. They actually take care of you unlike the big, huge chains where you are a faceless customer.

I would not stay there again. Apart from the proximity to the people we were visiting I would not have stayed there at all. The hotel is next to a homeless shelter. Who knew? I understand NYC is falling apart but then again, how could this not be a factor disclosed to potential guests? No, nothing went wrong but only because we weren't there long enough. The place is gloomy and goth-like. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to paint the walls in the hallways black, to have equally dark floors, or to lay down cold sterile dark wood as flooring in the rooms. Not a comfortable piece of furniture was anywhere to be seen. Hardly anyone who worked at the hotel spoke English very well, so that was frustrating. I suppose that is just how it is in the big city these days. Housekeeping service was hit or miss. We left our room early one day, and returned at approximately 3 pm. Nothing had been done. We called to see what their plan was and it became a battle to get anyone to come clean up and take towels etc. When the maid did come, she found time to initiate a political discussion with us. It was unprofessional and unwelcome, especially in these troubled times. The exercise facility is acceptable. Overall the place was clean. This is a strange hotel. Amazingly dark. I will never get past the black walls and floors in the hallway. Service was mediocre at best with one exception. I wanted two Diet Cokes with ice from the bar one night. I went to get them. Over $15 and 10 minutes later I got them. My hands were full and a nice young man offered to help me carry things to my room. That was nice. Not a good value proposition overall.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Leslie, Benny, and Angie were so friendly and took care of all of my needs without fail. They even gave me a free upgrade to a much bigger room. Hotel is very nice with a rooftop bar and pool and everything you can ask for. The location may not be for everyone though. It's a quieter part of NYC near office buildings and away most from attractions.

My partner and I stayed here on a busy December weekend. The staff was always very nice- from check-in and out, to getting the doors and elevators for us, and always greeting us with a smile. The room was spacious, clean, and updated. There was an iPad with a lot of information on it as well as internet browser use. The heat worked great. The bathroom was very clean and beautiful, with a nice glass-door shower and large sink. The building was always very quiet despite being filled with people. The location was perfect for our trip- close enough to walk many places, a Metro stop right outside the door, and far enough away from the downtown area to prevent loud noises and disturbances. I can't recommend this hotel enough!
