Hotel rooms are ROUGH. Staff is nice but this is a 2 star hotel at best. Had reservations at the cabins but decided to stay here because of in-house restaurant and regretted the decision. Food sub par, rooms horrendous and gross. Haven’t cleaned upholstery in decades. Full of nasty stains couldn’t wait to get out of here. Didnt want to touch anything it was so icky. This place has a lot of potential if they would only maintain the place. Came here 15 years ago and don’t remember it being this bad. Such a shame. More than anything I hate that such a wonderful memory I had of this place was basically destroyed.

I have gone to the Retreat on Charleston several times. Most have been for a meal either at the bar with a mountain view or their restaurant that is very large and impressive. the way it was built with timber, plus they have a very long bar here also. The service has always been good and the food as well. If you want to have that mountain feel while having lunch or dinner, this is the spot. I have also gone up to an Arts n Crafts festival, which was pretty cool, we walked around with hot chocolate with marshmallows. And we bought a couple of cool things. And don't forget the drive up. Seeing the transition from desert to mountain is cool too.

We initially booked a third floor room with a balcony, as we were so excited to be in the mountains with a balcony! When we arrived, I asked the front desk clerk if the hotel had an elevator and was surprised to find out they did not. To be fair, that's my mistake for not researching the property further, as stairs are a challenge for my partially-handicapped father. As soon as I mentioned this to the front desk staff, they were quick to work on getting us a first floor room for easier access for my dad. I felt like they truly went above and beyond to make us as comfortable and satisfied as possible. They were literally running around the property to check on rooms for us, and I was so immensely grateful for their dedication. The manager Brandy was so efficient and kind, along with Gabriel and Kim. All three of them were just wonderful. I truly can't say enough good things about their customer service and kindness. We were so pleased with the room and service that we received. Brandy even checked in with me as I was retrieving our bags from the car to make sure we were happy. Gabriel was friendly and dedicated to making our stay a good one. Kim was fantastic and even gave us freebie coffees in the morning. The restaurant was good and priced fairly. The chili was AMAZING and the BBQ pork sandwich was tasty. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful. Make sure you get up in time to see the sunrise down in the valley. Thanks again to the awesome staff at the Retreat for making our stay so memorable!

Dont forget the snow sleds! Wasn't too busy or crowded during the week. They had the rangers who were friendly in their shack thing in case anyone needed them. They were also mice enough to tell us that we could park outside of the campsite for free then just walk in ratger than having to pay a fine which was really appreciated. Had a great time playing in the snow.

Retreat lobby is very warm and cozy. The restaurant has the best Buffalo cauliflower. My son loved the western burger. I would've given this place a 5star but the room is not well kept. The mattress was just covered with one fitted sheet and just hanging on the floor, actually touching the floor. The one big window was dirty and obscuring us from seeing the beautiful mountain view. Door handle loose and actually fell off and when we were trying to open, my son had to put it back on. This place needs more maintenance for sure.
