The Sanchaya did not disappoint. They even provide a private departure & arrival lounge area at the ferry terminal for the Sanchaya guests. As soon as you get off the ferry the staff will escort you to the lounge while they take care of the immigration process 👍the room was clean and spacious, appreciated Aesop amenities. The building and setting really is beautiful and never felt crowded even on the weekends. The management is present on site and happy to talk to guests. The restaurant food is solid and we never got tired of it during our 3 days. This is definately the best place at when visiting Bintan. I even bought the sanchaya plush doll from their shop. just could not resist... and he now sits at my home happy 😹

Lovely people, lovely place. From the first contact I made with their reservation to get information on how to get to the hotel from Singapore, they had since impressed me with their professionalism and hospitality. The email they wrote back was complete with details about every step. Then on the day we got to the ferry, they had arranged some ginger candy in case of seasickness and special handling tags for our check in luggage. Once we arrived at the island, they helped with customs and getting luggage, while we waited in their lounge enjoying refreshments. Their general manager Greg was greeting us at arrival and waving goodbye when we left. During our two nights stay, staff would greet us by our names, and their mannerisms showed the professional training they had. The property is not too big but comes with a private beach. And beautiful swimming pool in front of the colonial style main building. It is clean and well maintained with its own charm. Because it rained almost the entire day on the full day we were there, we couldn’t do anything to explore outside of the resort. I wished the hotel could have something fun for the active kids to do. But anyways we enjoyed watching the rain pouring down while eating delicious lunch, and some other hotel guests were enjoying drinks at the patio of the hotel bar. Fortunately the rain stopped around 5pm and we were able to go for a walk on the beach and find some beautiful shells such as sand dollars(my first time seeing one actually). One thing that affected me negatively from the rain was that possibly due to the high humidity, the beddings felt damp , so I couldn’t sleep for the first night. But after spoke to the staff the next morning, they changed the beddings and it was much better the second night.
We ate all meals at the hotel restaurant. The food was very good and service was always fantastic.
There were lots of mosquitoes outside of buildings when raining, so don’t forget to put on the bug spray before getting out of door. Inside the buildings are mostly fine.

Overall a very lovely and unexpected experience. We were a family of 4 with 2 kids (ages 7 and 9). A few things to hopefully help you:
A) Absolutely the most personalised experience ever. From the greeting to knowing all our names and the drinks we wanted to teaching us padel tennis and being a ball boy. Absolutely impeccable.
B) It’s small and quiet. This can be good and bad depending on what you want. It felt more like a private house shared with others rather than a hotel. Perfect for 3 nights
C) Food was better than previous reviews indicated (in my opinion). The presentation was always good and we enjoyed most of the food. I’d say it was pretty good.
D) Room was lovely, beds very good.
E) Pool was great! So big, warm, just lovely.
F) We were knowingly there during the raining season and sure enough, it rained most of a full day. There wasn’t a lot to do when it rained. We watched movies, went to the spa and gym and just relaxed. It would be boring if we had a 2nd day like that.
G) Other good things - Spa was superb. Private pickup and transfer from ferry was much needed and would choose the hotel almost for that alone. I enjoyed all the drinks we had. Kids over the croquet. Padel tennis courts were great. Gym had enough to do. Bikes available to rent. Gold is close.
H) Ferry - Book emerald class on the ferry. If rainy season, consider pills for motion sickness as it was a bit rough but better than I expected (I was very worried about the ride!).
My son says - ‘it was one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at’, and I’d tend to agree with him.
Honestly, if you want a 5* hotel that has a very personal feel to it and are happy to relax and just take it easy, highly recommend!
