I heard the resort was decked out for Christmas and the spa is amazing. I wasn't able to get an appointment for the spa, but the mountain view from the room along with the rainfall shower made it a great experience. The staff at check-in weren't too pleasant upon arrival or departure, but the valet attendant was spectacular. He snapped a few photos for me and provided bottled water for my departure. The room was very nice and well spaced. The bathroom could use some renovation but it was also nice. Part of the charm for the resort was all the nature around me. I'd definitely return

We stayed three nights while visiting family for Christmas week. A few of the reasons we chose this resort was the pool facilities, proximity to hiking trails and relative cost. I wish I had done some research and had a better sense of the layout when booking, because I would have lobbied for a better situated room. I didn't book the mountain view because I knew we would not be spending a lot of time in the room, but we had golf view, but we were in building C on ground floor, which was: a) a long walk to the pool, building and parking lot, and b) we had absolutely no view, with a patio (vs balcony) that basically overlooked brush. The rooms were absolutely fine, beds were comfortable and water and coffee provided, as well as a small refrigerator. Shower water was sometimes only warm and not hot. Bathroom door was a pocket door that needed help with the latch to close, otherwise the door just drifted back open. The comforter was a bit warm so we asked for another blanket to use, which was delivered to the room while we were out and smelled of sweat and mildew. We didn't use and left a note with it to wash! The grounds are nice and the pool facilities large, all lounges and no chairs. Also, there was absolutely no pool staff whatsoever, outside of someone stocking the towels and a bartender. The "adult" pool was regularly used by kids and although there were three hot tubs, they were overrun with kids and one mom even had a baby in a diaper bouncing in and out. A few times, adults kept moving hot tubs to try to find a comfort zone. As other reviews have referenced, the resort is a bit dated. The lobby/main building feels like you walked into the 1990s. We were going to book a spa treatment but the prices seemed a bit too high for us. Overall, it was a good stay for the dollars, but I will likely give another resort a try next time we visit.

Every single part of our experience was 5 star, and I cannot recommend this hotel more....especially considering I haven't had the greatest experiences at Marriott properties over the past year. Our room got upgraded upon arrival, staff was excellent, and the entire resort was well maintained. Our room was renovated and beautiful, and the resort was also pet friendly, so it was nice to see so many canine friends walking around the grounds.

Overall, it was a good experience. They really take care of their guests. The bellhops were extremely helpful, shuttling us and our luggage by golf cart, since it was a long walk from the parking to the room. Make sure you bring cash along to tip those hardworking bellhops!! Beautiful grounds and exceptional views!! Our only complaint was that our room had HVAC dust all over the top of the shelving unit that held the fridge, coffee maker, and ice bucket. It looked like they replaced the AC filter (on the ceiling) but neglected to clean up after themselves. I would have expected better.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Westin La Paloma. We enjoyed our stay, especially the service. Check-in was great, room service was excellent, and all of the Marriott staff members we encountered went above and beyond. The location in the Catalinas is beautiful, and sunsets from our suite were absolutely gorgeous. Our suite was well equipped with coffee maker, refrigerator, and safe. We had a large closet and two luggage racks. The suite also had a large desk area for those on work trips. The reason I gave the room a 3/5 stars is because the bathroom could have used more attention. One of the lights wasn’t working, the toilet ran, but most importantly the tub and shower weren’t clean. On the other hand, the sheets were clean and the bed was very comfy. As far as dining, we unfortunately didn’t get a chance to eat at Contigo because no reservations were available, so word to the wise...if you'd like to dine at Contigo you should probably make reservations as soon as you arrive at the hotel if not before you leave for the trip. We did eat at Azul, and Azul has a good wine list as well as excellent service. As far as pools go, La Paloma has several: a Dead Sea Minerals Pool, a spa, a children’s pool, an adult’s pool, and a family pool (some with waterfalls). The pools are heated. Unfortunately, the "generator was out” while I was there, which meant the pool restaurant/bar, Sabino, was closed, the lights in the pool area restroom weren’t working, and the jets in the spa weren’t on. An electrical issue also occurred in our suite during our stay, and the fridge and cell phone charger quit working. The sockets had to be reset, which wasn’t a big deal because we didn’t have medication in the refrigerator, but I am just mentioning this because there seems to be some type of electrical issue at play here. Before we arrived, we had received a schedule of resort happenings for the weekend, which I greatly appreciated. We decided we’d like to try the “paint and sip” class and we went to registration to find out where to go. We were asked if we’d pre-registered for the class. I would have preferred that the resort happenings email had specified details like "preregistration necessary." But at least there are activities around the resort (in addition to hiking, swimming, and golfing) for those who are so inclined. At any rate, we had a very enjoyable stay and appreciated the courtesy of the Westin staff members.
