About Jorhat Airport

Located at a distance of 7 km in the southwest direction from the central point of Jorhat, the Jorhat Airport was established in 1950. During the initial years, it was a part of the Indian Air Force and acted as the first Army Base in the eastern region of India. Later, the government of Assam granted the construction of a civilian Air Base in collaboration with the Indian Air Force within the same campus. The runway is located at an elevation of 8,000 ft. It can handle a minimum number of passengers. The only cities it serves through air carriers are Guwahati and Kolkata. In 2022, the government of Assam approved about INR 156 crore for the further expansion of the Jorhat Airport and construction of new terminals, extension of runways, amidst other developments.
