About Bellary

Bellary or Bellari is a historic gem of the state of Karnataka. The name of the city Bellary originated from one of the names of Goddess Durga, who is also known by the name of 'Ballari'. The city traces its past to mythological epics like the Ramayana. According to legend, when Lord Rama was searching for Goddess Sita, he met Sugreev somewhere near Hampi (a nearby city famous for its ancient temples) for the first time. Looking at Bellary historically, the city has been ruled by several dynasties. The Satavahanas, the Chalukyas, the Kalachuryas, the Sevunas and the Hoysalas are some of them. The Vijayanagara rulers built 'the City of Victory' on the banks of River Tungabhadra and developed it like never before in all possible sectors. But soon, the city was in ruins after the end of their rule. Bellary offers its visitors a look at ancient historical sites depicting its culture and architecture. Because varied dynasties ruled Bellary, tourists here can witness a blend of different cultures, religions and traditions in one place. People here are hospitable and welcoming. You can enjoy the famous Bellary ëVogani Mirchi' (a special snack made with puffed rice and often served with fried dumplings), Rasam Bonda, Bandi Idli, and more. Travelling to Bellary will leave you amazed at its ancient past, beautiful heritage sites and mesmerising landscapes.
