About Bhubaneswar

Once known as Bhuvaneshvara, the ancient city of Bhubaneswar is located along the Kuakhai river in the eastern part of Odisha. The capital of Odisha, Bhubaneswar is often regarded as the Temple City of India. The city is home to some of the most magnificent temples in India, which are not just known for religious significance, but also for impressive architecture. The history of Bhubaneswar dates back to the 3rd century BCE as evinced by the Dhauligiri rock edict carved during the time of Mauryan Emperor Ashoka. The edicts refer to his notoriously famous victory over Kalinga. The city developed as a spiritual centre for devotion to Lord Shiva between the 5th and 10th centuries CE. In the following centuries, many temples were constructed in the region, including the Mukteshwara and Parashurameshwar temples, which showcase classical Odishan-style architecture. Today, you can see around 30 ancient temples in the old city area. In 1948, Bhubaneswar became the capital of Odisha. Bhubaneswarís sweeping landscape is a great mix of old-world charm and modern aesthetics, with skyscrapers jostling for space with historical gems. The city has many parks, gardens, and water bodies that provide a chance of pace from the hustle-bustle of its bazaars and commercial districts. Seafood lovers can look forward to trying delectable preparations of prawns, crabs, and fish. Vegetarians wonít be disappointed either with the local dalma, chattu besara, and ghanta tarkari. The best time to visit Bhubaneswar is from October to mid-March when the weather is cool. The Rajarani Music Festival is a huge draw among visitors for its traditional music recitals.
